Probably be ok by tomorrow. If not, you’ll know. Main Divide and Motorway will be fine.

From Darrel Vance, Trabuco District Ranger:

    Hi there,
Please see attached notification letter and media release, regarding our continuing fish dam removal project. At this time, Trabuco/Holy Jim removals are not set for a particular date. When those dates are firmed up, a closure may be implemented. All attempts will be made to minimize the length of the closure when it occurs.
    thanks

Silverado Motorway is in fine shape. Loose rocks, from gravel to softball size, all over the upper section. Ruts. Spots with loose rocks farther down. Ruts. I did not PR it today, either, but man I had a good time!! :)

I agree! But I won't head up there alone at night... My usual night riding partner isn't available this week.

Hey... Come on @herzalot ... I'll have you home by a decent hour. A quick Maple-Motorway loop.

Motor vehicle restriction heads up. From Trabuco District Ranger:

“As we’re expecting a pretty good amount of precipitation starting perhaps tonight, but most likely tomorrow morning, our personnel are going to be closing the gate in Trabuco Canyon. Expect it to be closed from Friday morning through at least the beginning of next week (until conditions dry out).”

    Should not affect bike travel.

Anyone know what kind of condition Blackstar and Maple Springs are in? Hoping to ride tomorrow morning (sunday).

Forget Black Star for a few days...

Maple Springs is actually quite nice even during rain.

It might be too late to stop this.

What's the next problem? Generally better to nip these things in the bud, so to speak.

Not hard rain, but consistent. Ground saturated, water standing, and the brunt of the precipitation is supposed to be tonight. Cool temps will conspire to create hero conditions on rockier trails for many days starting Thursday. Mud prone areas in northern CNF might need drying time.

Santa Ana Mountains socked in. 30-40% chance of precip tonight thru late AM, then sunny and high in high 50s. Sunday still cool.

Consistent mist in canyons overnight and this AM, became more like rain higher up Trabuco Trail at 6am. Of course immediate soakage without shoe covers.

WS event going off from Parker’s as planned.

    Tomorrow looks to be dry.

"Starting from the Parker Ranch, up Trabuco Creek Road to the Holy Jim Trail. Up the Holy Jim Trail to the South Main Divide. Across the South Main Divide to the Trabuco Trail. Down the Trabuco Trail to the finish at the Parker Ranch."

Just noting that the course description says "South" Main Divide, which would definitely add to the challenge.. http://www.warriorssociety.org/events/trabuco-challenge.html

Otherwise, good luck to all the riders and volunteers. It's a fun course, though maybe a little wet this morning.

It's actually a nice road and goes through the Santa Rosa Plateau. Passes the hang glider launch site above Lake Elsinore and is quite scenic. The road was closed last winter (heading south off Ortega) from the descent to Wildomar OHV area to the Tenaja trailhead at the bottom. It might've reopened and if so makes a great roadie loop if you park near the top of Ortega, descend to Grand Avenue and then climb Clinton Keith to S. Main Divide and take it back to Ortega. Best on cool days.

I was thinking about a route up Holy Jim to South Main Divide as far as Elsinore Peak and back down Trabuco... diverting to Blue Jay for water if needed. Strava puts it at 53 miles and a little over 8000 feet.

Or... Park at the bottom of the wall on North Main Divide and do it as an out and back all the way to Tenaja Road. Strava puts that at 51 miles and 6000 feet.

    Tues 930a

Just pulled off a tick. Clouds trying to creep up the canyons, sunny up top. Cool breeze and damp dirt. Main D south of peak is all-time easy. Looks like a moto roosted a hole in the drop into HJ, tsk tsk.

Great riding conditions. Heading to Joplin from atop UHJ. Maybe the Luge finish if I read the tea leaves right.

Upper Joplin beautifully maintained, thank you, whoever.

Joplin is getting annoyingly overgrown. And the poor thing, beaten to submission by fleets of motos...what used to be featured trails are now wide gravel slopes. Ride your favorite trails now, before they get kooked.

Upper Joplin wasn’t overgrown? Last time we were down it, I was on my hands and knees crawling under branches. :D
