Looking back at the photos, I noticed that the Bear poop is approximately the same size as my burrito...

The ride is just short of 20 miles/3700ft climbing and the worst part is the 5 mile climb from West Fork to Red box. Exposed to the sun, relentless and soul sucking as always.

The Gabrielino runs in east to west direction from Chantry flats to (very soon) JPL. Those of you that have done the Strawberry peak loop are familiar with the fun downhill section from Red Box to the Switzers parking lot.
The adventure today had us starting at Switzers and riding UP to Redbox.
Early start meant cooler temps at the beginning of the ride. There really is no warmup section here. Straight off the bat you work your way up the first of many rock gardens. That is pretty much the theme of the entire ride. Rock gardens, step ups, narrow soft edged climbs, dry boulder laden creek crossings. Exposure here and there. The occasional downed tree as well.

@rossage navigating a series of rock steps and making it look easy

Keeping momentum on long narrow sections like these is key

It was on a section like this that @Cisco Roots saw me clip a root on the right and sent me off the trail. Good thing I managed to grab a sapling which kept me from tumbling further down

    Looks good.
    Some narrow spots there!

Interesting how there are 2 specialized on opposite ends of the spectrum there!

    That's easy.

Ross is a pedaling monster who appreciates the higher BB clearance and efficiency of a hardtail. Don't be fooled, he hits the stuff the aggressive guys hit with their FS bikes, too.

Luis is an aggro rider who likes the cushion of a FS bike and who likes to leave the ground whenever the opportunity arises.

Strawberry is in excellent condition with some loose spots. Red Box to Switzers is a total blast right now. Saw no humans, two deer.

    For @mike

    After yesterday's ride;

Strawberry is in very good condition with some places of note.
The initial drop into the Potrero on the backside is getting sketchy. The deer have discovered the highway and are hoove-punching the thin soil into powder. With exposure to the left and a rock wall to the right...
The switchbacks climbing out are loose but do able. I celebrated a little early on #2 and even that little bit of body movement was enough to cause me to spin out. Next time....

And, the rock " waterfall" on the Gabe has been permanently altered. Several key rocks have been removed so that the shuttlers can take their 6" trail bikes down the smoothest way possible.

Rest of the Gabrielino down to JPL is amazing as has been posted already.

    Ride it!

Rode the Ken Burton trail this morning. MWBA had a trailwork day up there recently and they did a great job.
The trail is in excellent shape, but still a little late summer looseness.
Saw 4 deer and an owl. Cool .

After two weeks in Fresno, I went for my go-to ride, Brown up to the KB trailhead.
The Forest surprised me with welcome balloons.
    IMG_20181016_081105.jpg

Found an identical balloon on the way down... Ha!

    Trail is in fantastic shape.

Went out on Big Wednesday to scope out the AT over near Acton. I stopped by and picked up @Luis on the way. Red flag warning didn't stop us.
We started from the sports park and immediately lost the trail. The trail was overgrown and braided so we had to pick our way around. Once we got up by the water tower it was on!
The trail is in really good shape with loose sections. There is some moto damage and several new trail crossings that can be confusing.
We went up 10 miles to where the trail hits an old fireroad bed. Great views and sketchy downhill awaited us. Turned around and headed down.
Fun downhill that can be taken as fast as you can go... and hang on

Ate at Don Chato right there by the freeway. Pretty good service and pretty good food. But I felt like I was being watched...

Acton trail you say? For those of you wondering what we climbed today, here’s the elevation profile

Yea the climb sucks but the views are totally worth it.

Had to ride Valley Forge again... This trail rocks. Fast, fun, and recently worked on, its in great shape.
Things get hairy when you get to the Gabrielino heading down to West fork. At least 8 or 9 trees down requiring trailside gymnastics and dirt limbo to get past.
Most can be taken care of with a hand saw... Maybe a mid week maintenance run...

    Chilao, cold and windy
    IMG_20181111_072540.jpg
At Pacifico, the winds sounded like a freight train. Went from 20.5mph to 6.5mph on a downhill turn into the wind. Who needs brakes?

    Love it!

Oh yeah, the trail over Hillyer and the Silver Moc are in great shape.

Hunters are out in droves. I stopped and watched some guys butchering a fresh killed forkie on their tailgate. Severed head on display... Hardcore.
