This is going to be a work in progress. The first post kinda sets the stage, then each subsequent post will be a daily recap that I'll add to this thread. Gonna take some time, so bear with me.

Hey, John, fantastic effort. TFPU here. Congratulations on attaining what, seemingly, eludes certain supernaturally gifted riders: their limit. That’s why we do these things after all, no? Cheers, will ping you next time through the valley of the sun (this winter?), pints on me.

How many miles did you try to crank out in one day? Also how long from start to finish? Lots of mechanicals?

I was gunning for 100+ each day & was on pace through 7 or 8 days. The saddle sores really slowed me down later in the ride, so much walking...
Total mileage is listed as 2,745 miles. I tapped out at mile 1805.

Bike was solid. Started with a bent derailleur hanger probably from the travel. Had a bike shop in Fernie straighten it out. Both fork mounted bottle cage velcro straps failed, broke the switch on my K- Lite USB harness, cut a small piece of cardboard from a pack of Nutter Butters to hold it in place. In Steamboat Springs I replaced the brake pads and bought a new chain. That was it.

Wow, that’s a lot of riding for just one day never mind day after day, I can’t imagine! And I guess there’s not much you can do about the saddle sores, duct tape maybe:eek: :Roflmao
You’re completed mileage is impressive, either way and your journey has really been fun to follow! Do you plan on finishing the route at some point?

As you'll see in upcoming posts, I tried a variety of solutions for the saddle sores. Some helped for a bit, others didn't work. Some days it wasn't too bad, other times it was excruciating. Yes, next June I play on a return to Salida to pick up exactly where I left off (I can picture the turn in my head) and finish the route. Still have about 930 miles to go. Plus, I'm getting my pie in Pie Town dammit.

I assume with that kind of mileage you started out using some type of topical lube?

Yes. Another rider, Dave Wicks (He's the guy who did the AZTR750 yo-yo this year), had come up with a concoction that a few other riders swore by. I used it from the start, but I guess I was an exception. It was all three of these mixed together:

That seems like a really smart combo. Maybe swap out the A&D for some triple antibiotic?
