Back in March, when I did the Pioneertown 50 as an overnighter, I vowed to head back to the upper section, to bag Tip Top Mtn & explore the area further. Yesterday, I got my wish! 2N04 -2N01 -2N02 -2N90 (Tip Top) -2N02 -2N87Y -"really good ST" -2N04. That's a lot of fire-roading, but it was beautiful & mostly quiet; maybe 8-9 jeeps/trucks on the whole route. A couple of HAB spots, where the babyhead-baby powder combo proved too loose for me. 21 miles or so, great temps, strong wind gusts. You should go!

Oui, mon Capitan, and south of Baldwin Lake. 2N04 branches off of Hwy 38 a little north of Onyx summit.

    Very nice, Bill!

Though we tend to prize singletrack, I have great appreciation for dirt roads and the places they can take a rider. Thanks for the primer on this area.

Oh, man...I'm a sucker for that hi des pinyon forest!

The Saline Valley Rd (at both ends) has a lot of double-track that's this same vibe. There's a lot all over the Inyo Mtns in general, but North Pass on the Saline Valley Rd is my favorite.

    Chunk near North Pass

Nice Bill, you've been getting some awesome rides in lately. I may have to copy your dark Arch route one of these days.

Thanks, Evan! That's high praise indeed, coming from The Exploration Master!
