Another in a series of my seasonal Blackstar rides. Not sure how things would go with social distancing and if people want to gather or not.
Put out the ride invite to see who would come out.
Coworkers Eric, Brian and Eric showed. As did another friend, Dave.
Then two new riders for me to meet, @Lost Kiwi on a strange Frankenbike and his first Blackstar ride, and @strobe single speeding it.

Pretty standard ride up Blackstar, some people out but maybe not as many as normal. Very pleasant conditions, not at all hot. Social pace up to Beek's. Right before we got to Beek's actually saw some hikers heading down, a pretty stout hike overall.

We made it just in time to see the sun set over the fog below.
We celebrated the last day of spring and the coming summer with a pagan ritual of drinking malted beverages.

Then the wind and fog moved up to us and it started getting chilly. A jeep had just driven by and as we hit the top gate going down, there it was - blocked by the gate. Guess they don't know the area and were out exploring.

Here's a little vid before sunset looking downvalley.

Jim! This awesome! Like I said, wish the trails were closer.
@Lost Kiwi on his Proflex, it’s alive!
And @strobe! How long has it been now. We rode Idyllwild a million years ago together!

...and what’s the full story on the Jeep incident?

    :thumbsup:Mikie

I thought about coming down, but we had to make a quick road trip that day...

Did anyone take the single tracks in the dark?

    No single tracks were ridden.
Not much of a story on the Jeep. It was stopped by the gate and we went by. Assumed it did the 200 yard backup in the dark and then went back North on North Main Divide. Hope they had enough gas and sense.
@Faust29 missed you and a few others. Did have some new to me riders.

    Fall Equinox 9/22, a Tuesday.

Thanks for letting me tag along @Rumpled! Always nice to ride new places and especially with a cool group of people that can tell you a bit about the place as well
Must remember next time to bring some more clothes. Damn it got cold up there when the fog rolled in.

@Mikie, no proflex this time but now that I know the lay of the land it'll probably make an appearance for the fall equinox ride (assuming I can make it).
