Saw that Jaime did a report on this ride about 6 months ago, but since this was my first time on Skinsuit and I took some pics from different perspective, I'm gonna dup it :D

It's been many years since I climbed Skyline, and it's exactly how I remember it. It's not horribly difficult unless you hammer it and the views are excellent which helps take your focus off the mind numbing and very smooth fire road climb. About 5 miles from the car to Main Divide, took an hour and change 'cause I'm slow.

About a mile up Main Divide is the Doppler Radar Ball, where our weather comes from. It was quite cool up there, no, it was downright cold with a good breeze blowing, and was even some virga spitting through. Coincidence? I think not. The ball was makin' some weather so it could be reported by our cute weather girls on live megadoppler HD 5000. ;)

From the doppler ball, it's another mile up MD to the ridge where Skinsuit cuts off to the East (left in the pic)

Looking back from the Skinsuit trailhead, 7 miles of climbing done, around 2600 feet.

And looking out at the start of Skinsuit towards the Inland Empire

We'd heard of the steep, rutted, loose descents on Skinsuit, and being my first time I took off pretty slow and easy. To my surprise there is allot of fun, flowy, non rutted and not all that steep stuff off the top, and some short but steep climbs. But the dirt is perfect, tacky and not loose at all, so far.

We've hit more and more rutted and steep sections, but traction is pretty good. Definitely getting some giggly adrenaline bumps after making it down something you really weren't sure you were going to.

Now we're all cocky and laughy as we come to the last really steep drop. Damn this one looks tough, and it's one big rut and it's loose too. A couple guys were trying to hike their bikes up this and having a hard time, so they stopped to watch us. I hate when someone watches. I fell over after about 10 feet.

The last little bit, camera doesn't do it justice, but this one was rideable

All in all, this ride was a blast in these conditions, and I definitely will do it again knowing the trail a little now. But I imagine once the soil dries it's gonna be super loose and sketchy. We caught it at just the right time. Not a huge ride, 10.3 miles 2730 feet and took us 2hr 40 min total with plenty of breaks. If you haven't yet, go get some soon!

Funny how your pic does capture a pretty steep drop, and usually a pic doesn't. Maybe the houses in the background give it more perspective.

It looked like it was gone after the last fire in 2015? that shut down Motorway for two years.

That Fire was summer ‘14 and I don’t think it affected skinsuit, but last September’s Canyon Fire did

I can't believe the number of trails visible at the bottom of Skyline now. There are DH type trails everywhere criss crossing the fire damage. Some old, some new, but all getting worn in.
