Sand Flats road looks like fun....at Mach Chicken speeds. Otherwise it was the same as what we rode, just wider.

Good eye! Getting the timing set on that was harder than the rest of the video.

All 3 days where long days. 9-5 or longer.
I think that the two shuttle rides made those days doable for the average rider. Without them, some might have had a hard time finishing the day and starting the next.
The shuttle for day 2 chopped 5 miles off the hardest climb of the trip. A few riders didn't take the shuttle. I'm glad that I did.
The day 3 shuttle was on paved road, and the organizer probably didn't want to have 50+ riders on a twisty road without a good bike lane.
The two shuttles help transform a 4-day trip into a 3-day.

With the same set of circumstances, I'd make the same choice... I'll put that trail in the same category as Art Smith in Palm Canyon. Assess before going into it, and make sure all systems are a go. If the body is only hitting on 4 cylinders, I'd pass it by. My goal next year is to be 100% going into the last day. Unlike this time around, when every rock and root sent a message through my elbow and shoulder.

The shoulder still isn't right... I'm going to give it a few more days and then maybe have it checked out.

On a positive note, I got my replacement Apple Watch today. I don't feel naked anymore. :inlove:

Mountain biking is much harder on your body than than road biking. With road biking, you go for consistent spans of pedaling on comparatively smooth surfaces. With mountain biking, you are commonly going through on and off micro adjustments in your cadence and then there is those hard bursts on the pedals to get up and over stuff. Add to that the constant chatter and bouncing around. Not good for sensitive, healing tissue.

Bingo! Mr Ssnakes is on point, there’s a lot of hard impact as opposed to the smooth pedaling on the road.
Hmmm, maybe a gravel ride on the MTB in the nearer future :sneaky:

    Kokopelli Extra Credit Loops...

    Day 4- Zen Trail.
    Day 5- Gooseberry Mesa (video)
    Day 6- Bear Claw Poppy

I've posted video of Zen and Bear Claw in the past, but Gooseberry Mesa was completely new for me. It was unlike anything I've ridden before, and that includes all of the Kokopelli riding. Lots of big smooth rocks with short steep climbs, as opposed to the square edge hits of the previous three days. It was a riot, and would have been even better if I had brought my 5 day legs instead of my 3 day legs. :p

The camera died early on this ride. I guess it was tired, too. I missed a lot of the neater stuff on the second half of the ride... I also don't have any footage of the 6 car German train that we ran into!

    17 miles and 1500 feet.

Hmmmm... Why do they call this the Windmill Trail?

He actually went back a couple times and cleaned it... I watched. I also walked just about every 3 foot climb on the mesa. When the legs finally came around, and I made a few climbs, it was time to leave. :Roflmao

Thought of you on the way out... Apparently they had some rain last week. Glad I wasn't there to make the ruts! We were lucky and only hit a couple small patches of mud higher up.
