The 2019 imtbtrails Big Bear Social Event has come and now sadly is over. Waiting for the day is excruciating, but then it seems to fly so fast and whoosh! It's over...

When being ride leader for this size and diverse of group, I'm looking for a few things to happen, 1) Everyone gets through it...alive, 2) That we hit the right pace to satisfy most, 3) That some are stretched a little in their ability, but most importantly 4) We walk away thinking it was a good time had by all! I really think we hit all for objectives this year. Everyone had smiles. No one got killed, we had 24 bikes out there and not one mechanical. Huge thank you to @Voodoo Tom for running sweep today!

For those of you, and there were many, who had never ridden Big Bear, I suspect you will now go back! In my opinion, Skyline is the crown jewel of the Snow Summit area and I hope you figured out why. A classic cross country ride, brilliant in it's construction and is easily ridden in either direction.

I was on the road at 5:30 Saturday morning with the goal to hit @Voodoo Tom 's place at 6:15. I was late by about 7 minutes. As usual when it's my ride event I'm freaking out about getting there early, making sure everyone has parking, that we get on the trail on time, blah blah, blah. Poor Voodoo, he knows what I wreck I can become. "Mikie, we have plenty of time!"

Taking the 5 to the 210, to the 330, to the 18 the roads were actually pretty clear. The 330 up the mountain was the most congested, thank goodness for passing lanes and my 2005 Dodge Ram Diesel!

I wanted to kill the nice lady at Subway in Big Bear, but having a homicide on my record for slow service was not worth it that day. "Mikie, we have plenty of time."

I think Ssssnakes was the first to hit the parking lot after we got there. The parking lot attendants were totally cool once they realized we were NOT going to park where they wanted us to. In fact the parking went exactly as planned and we built our own little parking lot world within the DH world of Snow Summit.

After many hello's and serious hugs (a moral imperative in Mikie's world) we were actually geared up and ready to roll at 9:58am. A mug shot line up by a random parking lot photographer, and we were off to hit the trails of Big Bear Snow Summit!

    upload_2019-8-11_15-4-30.png

We hit 98% of the intended planned route. I was in front with Trail Slayer and @Rick O’Donnell on Pine Knot, the last bombing descent when I realized we went WAY past our right turn back towards Town Trail and the Snow Summit parking lot. The Hooligans were graceful and even though we added a little more climbing and a couple more miles to get back, there was no hanging of the ride leader.

As usual, I try to capture everyone in the pics. I often blow it. If I missed you please don't hate me as I try really hard not to.

This is where I realized I missed the turn and had a “whoops” moment! Responsible for 23 other folks, I take it seriously. I'm really glad that Sssssnakes was there to take over as my Garmin to get us home. Thanks Ssssnakes! How many S's are actually in the word Sssssnakes?
    DSCF3203.jpg

    After the ride...
Some how I completely went brain dead once we got back to the Snow Summit Parking lot. No more pics. Tents went up, tables were assembled, barbecues were heated, and grub was placed.

Had a surprise and unexpected cameo appearance by @Old&InTheWay , what pleasant surprise! Great to meet and talk with you a while!

Efficiency expert and consultant, @horsebikerider helped us with our grub efficiency layout for our Center of Excellence on the Fringe of Sh!t! (Inside Joke) lol!

We grilled, we grubbed, we guzzled beer. Trail Slayer drank Root Beer.

We actually had a raffle. A first for imtbtrails. I made up some custom raffle tickets and we threw them in a container.

The official Ultra Custom imtbtrails Raffle Ticket:
    raffle-ticket.png

Product was donated by some really cool guy from imtbgear (There is a potential affiliation :whistling:) There were 3 prizes: 1) Tailwind 8 Stick Sampler Pack, 1) 30 Scoop Bag of Tailwinds and 1) 50 Scoop Bag of Tailwaindz. The winners got to choose what flavor of the now 8 choices.

Of all the most bizarre coincidences, I shook the container of tickets and randomly had members pick out a ticket. @mtnbikej drew first and he picked his own ticket! What are the chances of that?!?!? Well I guess 1 in 24. He won the 8 Stick pack Sampler.

I shook the container again and had @Cyclotourist draw the next ticket and he picked his own ticket! What the...? He won the 30 oz. Bag.

I shook the container one last time and had @mountaingirl sara draw the last ticket and she picked @Grego , so he got to choose a 50 scoop bag of Tailwind's.

    Good times!
The sun had crossed the sky and it was time to tear down. With everything loaded up it was time to say goodbye and thanks for the tear down crew.

I took this one last pic of the survivors. Each flying our secret hand gesture of love! Thanks for another great episode of imtbtrails social rides! Hooligan Nation!

In my mind, this is the classic Skyline Loop in Big Bear. Up, around, and down. Always an absolute wonderful ride. But this time, with 25 of my closest friends on the interwebs!!! We even picked up two strays while up there!!! A perfect day, with low temps, slight breeze, and mostly open trails. This "social" pace was spot on what I would call my normal pace, so I was able to just cruise it the whole way. Any faster would have broke me!!! An uneventful ride, is what you hope for. No hospital visits, and I don't think any mechanicals up on the mountain. A handful of first-timers to Big Bear as well as IMTB social rides, which is the best part! Having all these people come together and ride some trails is just GREAT! The bonus trail at the end (Cabin89) was new dirt for me, and one of the best trails, so glad we got to ride it! The re-route through town wasn't so bad, so worth it! Finished the day off with a huge-ass meal in the shade ain't so bad, either!

Good day to be on the mountain.

IMTB Social invades Skyline 2019. Big group....I think we had 25'ish.

Good to ride with some of the hooligans I don't see often. Good to meet a few of the hooligans I've yet to meet.

10am roll time, and temps were pretty nice. A little bit of a breeze, and clear blue skies.

Social pace was adhered to. Rode a little bit out front, a little bit in the middle, and helped out at the back for a while.

With a group this big, we did a pretty good job of staying close together. From time to time we'd get a bit stretched out, but for the most part it was good. Surprisingly, we didn't run across much traffic along the way. the trail was pretty wide open. Got the chance to socialize with most of the peeps....although I think I did miss a few.

Lots of Sh!t talk, lots of laughs, and more smiles than you can shake a stick at.

Our IMTB Ladies held their own today.

We did have a few unplanned dismounts, but everyone made it out safely.

    No mechanicals.

A route deviation led to some extra credit, but no foul....no harm.

Awesome group of riders....no diva's, no drama, no tantrums, no whining.

Awesome spread for the post ride tailgating....thanks to everybody for their contributions....I left fat and happy.

The post ride raffle was a success.....maybe cause I was a winner.

    Soooooo....when we doing this again?

    How bout some pics......

I had a great time yesterday riding with you all. You are truly wonderful people. I was happy to meet new riders I hadn't met before. It was last minute decisions for me but it all panned out. I asked my wife to find us a place to stay and she did. It was the '70's show across the parking lot in the ski cabins right there where we staged from. We stayed there once last year so we knew what it would be like. I hadn't put in many long rides recently so yesterday's social pace was fast enough for me.:whistling: I walked, dabbed and washed out a couple of turns but over all I had an absolute blast! Last night Cori and I went and shared prime rib at Captains Anchorage.- ( which was 1/4 mile away ) We just arrived home an hour ago. I took pics of most of you at this short rocky drop. I'll post them shortly.
