I had heard good things about these trails but doing a day trip from the far side of Durango, over the passes, didn’t seem too logical so I never bothered. Then I drove through the area last year coming back from Crested Butte and knew I had to ride the area. My father in law volunteered to watch the dog so I could do 2 days up here. I waited for the weather to clear and took off this morning at 8 am.

This system is pretty much all hand dug singletrack and its in amazingly smooth condition overall. The recent moisture helped with the dirt being almost perfect as well. It’s very well designed which is good because you start out of the lot with a 2.9 mile climb (think Boy Scout in Wrightwood but better dirt). When the downs get going, it’s like the best of Skyline...but better dirt (notice a theme here). I think I did 16+ miles and it’s all lower intermediate in my opinion. It would make a stellar course for a 24 hour endurance race. Not very challenging and zero HAB for @evdog

Only saw 5 other riders all day and one of them was some crazy dude wearing spandex and riding a hardtail. Lot was overflowing with 14-15 cars when I got done at 1:30'ish with people still arriving as a I was leaving. As you can see in the photos, weather was perfect in the low 60's. Going to try some Montrose trails tomorrow

Trail starts up right from the parking lot. 6 cars there at 11 am. Views up towards Telluride.

When I rode Ridgway ten years ago, I expected the RATS to keep building the place out and try to make a go as a destination area. They haven’t quite done that, but it’s a super spot for the locals and worth riding when you’re in the area on a trip to other big-name stops. And you can’t beat the setting.

Ha, not every ride has to have HAB. Just all the good ones. :sneaky:

I've been wanting to check that place out. I don't often get past Durango if I head that way though....

Those are some seriously fun trails...on a hardtail too!! Ha! I believe those mountains in question are still the San Juan's, just on the opposite side of Silverton. Segment 22/23 of the CT.
