    Soooooooo.....

Was talking with @Faust29 about an endurance race....with the recent fires in So Cal over the last couple of years, many of our normal events have been cancelled.

Well....the group that puts on the True Grit Epic also does a more traditional endurance event....25 Hours in Frog Hollow.

    https://gropromotions.com/25-hours-in-frog-hollow/

This is Nov. 6 & 7, 2021 Saturday and Sunday.

This is in Hurricane, UT.......just below Gooseberry Mesa.

It's a team relay that goes from 10am Saturday morning until 11am Sunday morning.

I presented it @Faust29 as a 2 Person team.....but that sounds kinda painful in my current form.

So, We thought a 4 or perhaps 5 person team would would increase the fun factor, and decrease the pain and suffering.

It's going to be as serious or fun as we want it to be....but I expect there to be no fiddlefarting around on course. There are lots of really fast teams, so winning isn't the goal. Having fun is....but I like to push myself as much as I can.

Based on the course, looks like lap times around an hour....thus that would mean 4-5 laps.

Sounds like every team member is required to do at least 1 night lap....other than that, it's create your own adventure.

Cost per rider would be $155 before Sept. 6......$175 after that.

Feelers are being put out to see if anyone would be interested.

if you aren’t selected, don’t take it personally…at the end of the day, it is a race and selected teammates will provide the best chances.

    What say you?

The True Grit event is really well put together. I can only assume that this event is just as epic.

    Watching course videos now… :D

I'm interested, and I'd like to ride out there. Unfortunately my vacation in that area is a few weeks later.:cry:

I’m gonna ask if I can move my annual hall pass one week later and try to make this! If I make the roster, I’m going to train for it. 2,700’ of climbing on a 13 mile loop is a little stiffer than a trip to Cocktail Rock and back…ouch. I expect the HoOLIGANS to strive for a podium (Top 5) finish.

Update: Trailforks indicates it is under 1,100’ of climbing over a 13 mile loop. That sounds more like a 25 hour endurance race. SS will spin out and slow the pack down behind them.

I have done the 24 hours of Old Pueblo in February 2020 (last event before Covid) with my friends from TninkMTB. It was a blast most of the time.
We rented and RV and it made sleeping possible.
I ended up riding two laps with light.

I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to try something different.

Doood! I received kinda the same thing. She said an event after the Halloween and pumpkin patch and party festivities is preferred! That counts!

I watched a loop on YouTube…looks like a hardtail would be the best whip to ride, and a dropper post would be nice to have. I’d bring two bikes (hardtail and XC-ish dually) and ride a couple of test laps to dial in the rigs, tire pressure, etc. The loop seems closer to 1,100’ of climbing per lap. Not sure how the organizers calculated 2,700’ of climbing, as listed on their webpage. Podium for 4-person open is top 5, but for a 5-person or corporate team, ya gotta make the top 3 to get on the blocks.

If we have enough for two teams, we should stack the A-team, and the B-team can ride safe.

From memory, that loop is borderline gravel bike territory (I actually have ridden my gravel on some of it). I think the elevation is wrong, maybe 2/3 of that. Probably really tall SS gearing if you are going that way. I could be wrong, but, that is just what I recollect.

I wouldn't think of it as being an exciting course by any stretch. BUT, would probably be enjoyable.

By this description, fiddlefarting clearly will improve the route. But max three on the team so each gets, at minimum, two safechecks during his leg.

I did a 24hr race a long time ago on a 10 person "corporate" team....we set out just to have fun. One of the riders actually stopped during his early morning ride to watch the sunrise. I get taking it easy and having fun, but at that point you've gone way out of bounds......I mean it is still a race.

I am interested. I have looked at this race before to do it but I am more of a 12 hour person, definitely not 24 hour solo but have done plenty of 24 hrs of adrenaline 4-5 person team races so it would be fun. If we can gather enough participants maybe a SS team and a geared team.

For me the SS is a given in a event like this.

I could possibly have 3 SS’s and a fourth who looks at it everyday and walks past it.

A four person team I think would be perfect. Hard but not so hard that your not having fun. Even 3 person team wouldn't be too bad. The fourth person should be easily convinced to ride his SS. Even if it is not as cool (supposedly)
