The future is less cloudy. Accordingly, I ordered a new helmet to replace the smashed up one.

I pulled a Mikie last evening. I was going on a ride but changed my mind and did some back pack blower clean up. I went all around the yard even doing steep slopes that I had mowed last weekend. I was done except this one big slope that is under a big-tall Coast Redwood. With the winds the dead fronds were all over the slope. What the hay I, did the steep short slopes, so up I went, about 21 stair steps high. This slope would qualify for your exposure if on a bike. If moving down you cannot gain your step and stop. Knowing this I was side slope stepping. Well I started to loose my feet and went backwards, backing through the roses that line the stairs, over the wall along the stairs, ass over kettle onto the steps but that did not hold. Down the stairs and stopping face down, knees bent up against the wall feet sticking up above. Wedged into the stair tread with the backpack blower still running. It was just like crashing on my bike, pinned in place, unable to move with that 2 cycle going put put on my head. Just like a bike crash it took me quite awhile to free myself. Lucky only some lacerations and a lot of sore things like elbows, hips, back and arms.
    Seems like Mikie got lucky.
Happy trails if I would of chose the two wheeler

    If it's not on Strava, it didn't happen. . . .
I have done stuff like you at Losta-Rocks-Ranch with my backpack blower. Once you start tipping over there is no stopping gravity.
Glad you're not seriously hurt. You're a mountain biker, tiz but a scratch.

Saw a knee specialist this morning, same doc that did my shoulder nearly 9 yrs ago. Have had discomfort in the knee since the surgery, especially when walking, not so much riding the bike. Never had knee problems before. Anyway, he had some x-rays done and things look pretty good. No evidence of any damage, no reason to suspect arthritis, maybe chance of slight meniscus tear. I am scheduled for an MRI in 2 weeks to rule out soft tissue damage. It may well be referred pain from the hip arthritis. In any event, it is good news to me that I am not needing a new knee joint! He thinks I still need more time to heal. He offered cortisone, but eff that. I'll just bite down on the mouth guard. I am at 7 months and it could easily take a year to get back to somewhat normal. He is a mtber and was horrified at the CT of my hip pre-surgery and post-surg. with the hardware. He was blown away that I am back mountain biking. Asked if I had an e-bike - as if! I told him I am a hard core mountain biker. Bit my tongue on the e- as he told me he has one. Ride on brothers!!!!!

Had the MRI yesterday and just read the radiologist's report. Not what I was hoping for. Sounds like a lot of damage going on in there but the bottom line is that I have both lateral and medial meniscus tears in the right knee. It also mentions a couple of grade 3 cartilage defects which can't be good. :( What a pain. o_O I see the ortho surgeon next week for review of the results and wtf to do about it. I don't know if all the riding and hard (f0r me at least) climbing I've been trying to do to get my legs back in shape has been a good thing or not. Surgeon is a mountain biker as well a sports medicine knee specialist so he'll know I guess. :bang:

Major bummer. I had knee and hip pain. Thought I was done for. Went to a PT that gave me some stretching exercises for the hip and knee. Freiken healed me! Thought for sure I was going under the knife per the ortho. Good luck.

The dr. I am seeing for my knee is the same who repaired my AC separation in 2015 (also mtb crash induced). When I reminded him he did the surgery, he got a worried look and asked if it was slipping. I struck the he-man flex pose and said "strong like bull!" He was relieved.
