Edit: A little plug for the local company which donated the cool looking purple valves I won. I saw that they also donated a bunch of their sealant for the raffle. http://speed-evolution.com/

And when I opened my pinkish purple water bottle this morning, out fell a business card from none other than Mr. Warren H. at 3pzglobal.com  (@driffter33)

I drove, I rode, I ate, I didn't crash. I found the Jeep Trail. It was awesome. And I had it completely to myself. Again.

Temps were in the 80s at the start, and the wind was squarely in our faces. After the turnaround in Big Bear, the temps dropped, and it was actually pretty cool the rest of the way back to town. But, as the temps dropped, the wind shifted, and it was squarely in our faces. :gag: The road miles at the end were brutal. Pedaling downhill... :gag:

I did not beat last year's time, but... I had a riot on all of the downhills, and especially on the extra credit Jeep Trail. No crashes, and I cleaned the big rock bitch that drew blood last year. :p:D Talking with the volunteers, they thought that less than 25% took the extra credit. I've been alone on it the last two years...

I stayed for the auction this year. It was fate. For one of the raffles, Jason said, "Get all the purple stuff and put it together." I won! The Chameleon is getting new purple ESI grips, and purple valve stems! Woo Hoo!

    Hanging out before the start...

49 miles and 5700 feet... Although the overall numbers are similar to Rwanda, this ride is a much harder 50. The terrain, and the initial 17 mile climb make it a lot more taxing... I was digging deep by mile 22. There are several HABs for most riders in both directions, and they are a certainty (for me) on the single speed.

Hopefully they don't decide to ax the Jeep trail in the event.

    How was the sand wash?

It only sucked half as much as last year on the way up. There was a hard line for a lot of it. Coming down I just coasted for the majority of it.

Cool report and good score on the raffle - you even got a paycheck from OC Skool District!
Jeep trail looks fun - maybe at a social pace.

Huh, you're way down there and you're actually a few miles closer than I am.

Nice one Steve.:cool:Looks fun. I bet that oval chainring helped a bit? You could resurrect the Pimp thread with those purple vale stems. ...or not.

Most of the ride is fire road, but it’s crazy loose and rocky in spots... the oval really helps with maintaining traction on that type of terrain.

The actual number was 33 who told us at the finish that they took it (about 15%). If we keep it, we need to do a better job of marking the turn. Something like a sign that says, "Jeep Trail Option, 1/2 mile ahead," and it needs to be on a bigger sign I think. The turn was clearly marked, but if you weren't looking for the arrow, it might have been easy to miss.

Any feedback from anyone who rode, you can send it to me. Thanks!

Well....The weather was pretty good, except for the headwind on the pavement in both directions. But compared to the wind from about a week before, that was nothing. Overall, the weather and conditions were probably about as good as we could hope for. We were thrilled with the turnout and hope people had a good experience. That's most important! Sometimes it's hard to tell right when someone finishes, but most seemed to enjoy their day. I thought things with parking and registration went pretty smoothly and we started right on time.

Here's some stats that are interesting to me (all from preregistration) -

Our oldest rider was 69 years old.
We had 4 riders who were 12 years old.

40 riders were 18 or younger.
58 riders were 50 or older.

    31 Female
    146 Male

    29 riders were from Beaumont
    25 riders were from Yucaipa
    10 riders were from Redlands
    9 riders were from Riverside
6 riders were form Cherry Valley
    4 riders were from Glendora
10 riders were from the San Diego area

    Other home cities included
    Fox Lake, WI
    Phoenix, AZ
    Oro Valley, AZ
    Bellevue, WA (2)
    Mammoth
    San Luis Obispo

Also had 5 locals (2 from Yucca Valley and 3 from Twenty Nine Palms)

12 listed their bike type as Cyclocross
4 listed their bike type as Fat Bike
2 listed their bike type as Fully Rigid mtb
7 listed their bike type as Singlespeed

I find it hard to believe that many people pedal that hard to get up the hill only to bypass the best part. That jeep trail ROCK'S congrats on your raffle wins.
