Been wanting to check out this area...this is a perfect excuse.

Most likely grind it out with wifers on the tandem. I doubt you wanna go that slow, rossage, but I'll bet I can keep up with you for at least two beers!

I sounds like a cross bike will not be the smartest weapon of choice even though they're calling this a Gravel Grinder ride. I'm in, I'll ride Mrs Jones in the 29+ mode.

This sounds fun, but I'm certain I will not be ready in time for it this year; next year definitely is possible as long as I am intact. That stretch of the San Bernardino mountains is full of history and pre-history! ...and Chinese opium pipes.

I did a Google Earth flyover of the route... It looks like a lot of fun and nice scenery, especially over the 6,000 foot mark. I'd have to say I'm 99% in.

Bike for Bender posted quite a few pictures to their Facebook page a little while ago... The scenery is pretty awesome. It still looks like a fun ride!

I'm thinking pretty hard about doing this. It's a hell of a drive for a 7:30am start time.

Next weekend... Anyone still planning on going?

Their Facebook page indicates SAG stops at 17/33 and 25 miles. It sounds like a fun time, and it's a good cause...

If you're there, look for the fat sleepy guy on the blue Salsa! I'll probably still have a coffee cup in my hand as we roll out. :)

Barring anything that comes up unexpectedly this next week, it's on the calendar and approved by the wife. I'm planning on limping my way through the 50mi version to check my fitness level. At least in this version you only have to really struggle halfway and then you get gravity assistance on the back half of the 50mi? :?

My Dreaded-Harding-Peak run earlier this year was a little over same elevation/distance, and it hurt. A lot... I'll be limping along in this one, too! I think "slow and steady" will be the theme for the first part of the day.

I have also got approval from the wife to be gone all day on this one. I am going to ride my single speed and just set a nice pace and trug along for the 50.

Does anyone know if there is going to be good and water stations or should I plan on bringing everything I need?

Looks like stops at 17/33 and at 25... They say they will have the basics: water, Gatorade, oranges, etc...

I haven't done 50 miles in a few months, so I pushed hard this weekend as a ramping up effect for next.

Did 22.4mi ~3k elevation gain yesterday and 21.2mi ~2200 elevation gain today. Both in Aliso (cause it's my back yard).

The last 5 miles in today's ride was extremely slow :)

I should have enough in the tank for next weekend, should be a good time. I need to remember to put a "Cougar" label in masking tape or something on my hydration pack. If I forget that; Black Turner Burner, Black TLD Helmet (the blue one in my Avatar saved my head and retired nobly)!

Yeah... I might need to make a ghetto name tag. Mine will say something like, "ich bin Faust" :)

I'd mention the "jer&&&" again, but I've brought it up a few times- Mikie's going to get pissed at some point! I don't want to piss off el Jefe... He might banish me to STR.

If all goes well I will be there doing the 35. I am not ready for 50 yet, still getting my fitness level up. Looking forward to it.

I am actually very much looking for ward to this race on Saturday. I have never been to Pioneer Town so this will be a new area and new dirt for me.

Gonna make a last minute call today or tomorrow for this. Long way to drive for the ride.

But it sounds like it is right down my alley. New dirt is always fun.

If I do go....SS it will be...and for all 50.

I'm in for sure. I'm starting my carb loading today.

What are you guys going to wear? I'm thinking I'll wear leggings under my shorts, a (light weight) long sleeve jersey and bring my arm warmers just in case. I don't think I'll need a jacket, but starting that early, and gaining so much elevation I'm unsure how much it'll get out of the 50's until we are almost back and done.

I will probably just go with a base layer under the jersey. I can ditch that if it gets too warm... I might also carry a wind breaker for the ride back down.

And, I fully expect the single speed guys in this thread to tear up this course!

Not sure about that....at least not this weekend. Between the Tues/Weds. rides this week already over 11k' climbing. So will have to see how it pans out.

Should be fun either way.....either it is easy and fun.....or it is a really tough sufferfest....and suffering is just as fun. :p
