Well, had to put down our beloved cat Boo today, her diabetes had simply become unmanageable. She’s been on twice daily insulin for 2 months and for a while she was doing better, but then her appetite started waning.Last week she was in the 24-hr hospital for 3 days due to not eating/ drinking, rapid weight loss and ketoacidisis ( a deadly complication). They stabilized her, but no real cause was found and no specific treatnent plan (all the tests for thing like infection, cancer, liver or kidney disease were negative, just some mild pancreatitis.) Sent her home thurs nite with appetite stimulants, anti nausea pills, and a higher insulin dose. Ate and did well for a couple days but lost her appetite Sunday, but I got her to eat enough eventually. This morning she was very lethargic, Took her to our vet and she was in ketoacidosis again. We could either bring her back to hospital for more extreme measures that probably wouldn’t help long term, bring her home and try keep her comfortable while she dies painfully from starvation and ketones, or give her a peaceful euthanasia while she’s still comfortable and I could be present to comfort her. Chose the third, in and out of hospitals and cages and iv’s is not a good life for a cat. I hope I made the right decision. At least we gave her a happy outdoor life for 11 years.

You absolutely gave her a happy life, and protected her from pain at the end. That's the most anyone can do. So sorry for your loss.

Hey Gary, so bummed for you.
About a month ago I thought I was going to put down my buddy cat Velcro. Thought he had a tumor on his jaw. I was a soup sandwich man. I was coming unglued. Took him to a new Vet as mine was on vacation. Turns out he had a major infection and it all worked out but I was going to pieces over my little buddy.
Boo obviously had a great place and family and I thank you for that! So many times people hang on for them and not what is best for their pet. I’m really feeling you thought it through and made good choices.
    Best to you Bud!

Gary, you don't need to wonder if you did the right thing. You did.

Take care of yourselves, and allow time to slowly quell the void. You'll start to appreciate your old friend in a new way. In time, you can consider a new pet. Give the process its due, my friend. Condolence from both of us for your loss.

PS: I "liked" the fact that you generously fulfilled your responsibility as a pet owner and as a friend to Boo.

It's been two weeks since we had to put down our family dog Ninja.
He brought our family lots of joy and companionship for the better part of 14 years.
My son was about 7 years old when we first brought him home and I asked him to choose a name for him. He took one look at him and said he looks like a ninja with his black snout.
Ninja was a German Shepherd, Golden retriever mix.

Gonna miss this big goofball of a dog.

Luis - sorry to hear about Ninja but thank you for giving him a great life.

Mike - your cats are hysterical. Love seeing them so comfortable with each other.

Looking for advice ... I've got 4-5 kittens in my warehouse. Momma cat is around but is more elusive. I have been in contact with some of the rescues but they will not take untamed/feral kittens and if I trap them and bring them to the local animal shelter they will ... you know. So far they have not set off the motion alarm and I'm concerned they may get flattened by a forklift/pallet. They are cute but I really can't have them running in my warehouses.

There are some groups/places that will help with fixing feral cats. You trap them and and they get fixed and put back where they came from. Doesn't help with in your warehouses, but can limit how many there are around.

Kay, we got our kittens from PetSmart in Huntington Beach and they were rescued by the San Gabriel Valley Animal Advocates. They rescue cats and kittens in your situation and put them in foster homes until they're ready for adoption. They cover a large area and here's a link.. Good luck! We love our kittens!

Very good of you to think in their best interest, @H2oChick! There are rehabbed ferals for adoption at the Petco in Carson City. I'm heading there today and will inquire about SoCal possibilities.

Glad you're entertained by our two clowns. We sure are!

I've never had bonded cats before. These guys are never out of each other's sight...they play quite rough, fur flying, hissing, growling, biting, kicking, but they are BFF. The simultaneous grooming is adorbz, and they get right in those ears and, uh, everywhere. :gag: These cats have no use for catnip, they are already high on life; so playful. I can't imagine them living in two separate cages in view of each other and getting a couple of playtimes a day, but they did for 5 months. One lady at the shelter cried because she came to like Crash so much. I've been sending them photos and updates so they know these two are having a good life :)
