So my buddy is all fired up from watching our friends ride the Stagecoach 400 on the Tracker website and decides he wants to start riding again (been off the bike for a while) For some reason he decided he wants to whip his ass back in shape by climbing Palomar via High Point truck trail. 4600 feet in 12 miles with a final "demoralizer" wall at the top. I think I may have heard a little crying and bitching but we all made it. Not really a "fun" trail unless you like mashing and climbing, more of a ride just to say you have been there done that.

Anyhow... beauty of a day to be on a bike. Got to see 3 snakes that I haven't seen before. Gnats were a little overwhelming near the top, but I managed not to choke on any of them.

    Arrrrrgggg

OK... really having problems posting pictures. I really don't like the chromebook anymore.

lets try the snakes: a nice 4 foot rosy boa, a tiny baby rattle snake that I literally almost stepped on, and then a small slender snake maybe a striped whipsnake?

I don't mind climbing, but 4600 feet in 12 miles sounds painful!

Man, the camouflage on that coiled snake is sooooo good. Props on even spotting it. However, I echo the above as to why your foot is that close to it :p

Well I actually thought it was dead since it wasn't moving and ants were crawling over it and it didn't move at all. and it's head was turned away from me and it wasn't in the sprung coil / ready to strike mode. The worse it could do is strike the bottom of my shoe in the position my foot was in. Trust me, I am VERY careful around these guys especially the small ones since I understand they don't know how to control the amount of venom they release. After taking a few pics, I showed my buddies where he was located and the vibrations of all of us climbing up the rocks woke him up and he slid under a rock to hide. It was only 9-10" long. Super camouflaged. One of my friends said he couldn't see it even after we pointed it out to him, but he was standing a much safer distance away (like 6-8 feet)

The bottom snake is a Western Patch-nosed snake.
