Anyone ridden near Ojai lately? Heading up there for the holiday weekend - is Gridley a good trail?

Can you share the GPX file for that ride? Is the descent chunky or relatively smooth on red Reef?

Gridley is a great trail. Reminds me of San Juan or Holy Jim. Do an out an back to Nordhoff Peak for plenty of climbing, great singletrack and great views. Or you can loop with Pratt Trail and Shelf Rd. for a more raw trail experience and some chunk.

Check out http://venturacountytrails.org/index.html. There are also some newer trails built by the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy that don't show up on newer maps http://ovlc.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/2014-Valley-View-Map-Web.pdf

Stop at The Mob Shop in town more trail info. Good, friendly bike shop.

Gridley is not a good trail.

Gridley is a fantastic trail. It's got a little bit of everything that makes SoCal riding what it is. One of my favorites.

I have ridden it many times on a hardtail, and likely will again, especially if I get there via the Sisar fire road climb. But, if you're going there to specifically ride Gridley, it is more fun to descend that trail on a FS bike, especially towards the bottom of the trail.

I ended up climbing Gridley - it is a great trail in great condition with the entire spectrum of SoCal rock: boulders, pebbles, shale, sandy granite..

The lookout up on Nordhoff Peak was taunting me so I climbed all the way up to bag it and then went back to town on Pratt which I did not enjoy much, should have gone back down Gridley.

Checking in with www.inciweb.org this morning... my heart totally sank for another reason due to the Thomas Fire over in Ventura.
Red Reef and Gridley are gone!
Red Reef was beautiful and a favorite!

I don't think I can take much more of this!

Just talked to my Ojai bro. All of his out-the-door riding is gone. Pratt, Horn Cyn, Gridley, Sisar.

Yep and all morning the pic slot machine has been showing pics from the many Ojai trips. So much fuel there to feed a fire, scary stuff. Such a bummer.

Gridley was one of the rides I was looking forward to returning to and now it's gone. I guess I am happy that I was able to enjoy it before it's demise. It will be back again one day, I am sure.
