    Hi folks
I am a newbie who started riding in Feb this year. I absolutely love riding my hardtail bike. I regret I did not purchase a full suspension before the pandemic started. I feel like I wasted my life. Unfortunately, I am on a break because I fell off my bike on a downhill, and I think my rib is cracked or something. I have no idea I could fall, but it just happened so suddenly and quickly that the only thing I remember is I was on my bike, and I found myself lying on the dirt lol. I will try not to fall any more, but is it just natural that you fall sometimes?
Anyway, I will keep coming the site and check in! Have a great day!

Hey, BJ, welcome to a fun activity that can be dangerous! Everybody gets bit now or then, especially at first. Ribs take awhile, so be patient. "Try not to fall"...a good thought to keep with you while building your skills. Enjoy the adventure.

Crashing is part of the sport. I probably crashed 20 times my first year of riding. Stick with it.

    IF you ain't dying....you ain't trying.

Crashes happen.....usually when least expected....like on the easy parts of the trail.

Keep at it....it gets easier. And no, full suspension is not necessary....keep rockin' the hardtail.

The one near San Diego? I tied him in distance. Only, I was tumbling over gnarly rocks, branches, plowing over bushes, and slamming into tree trunks at full speed. Well worth the helicopter ride out.

And, I was landing on my bike, and it on me on the way down.

When we did the group ride at the FLoop a few years back, I almost crashed and so did others. The FLoop is not crash proof!

    Welcome!

We all crash... Some of us more frequently than others. I even have a few on video... :p If you bruised your ribs, they can take a long time to heal. A couple months of uncomfortable sleeping is normal.

We actually have different categories of crashes... There are the low speed tip overs, which are really common. I did one of those yesterday in a tight section that I've ridden 50 times. But I got up quick and no-one saw it. :D Then there is OTB, which means over the bars. If you're going fast enough, you can turn it into an OTB with a Superman finish. Exhilerating... until you land. :D

I'd try to avoid the mousetrap until you get better at falling... That one can hurt.

    Welcome @B.J. Ryu !

Sorry to hear about your bruised ribs. I never crash, but most everyone else on here does a lot! I'd like to tell you that the crashing diminishes as your skills increase, but I think that would be misleading. It's a part of the sport - or so I'm told.

Hoping for a speedy and complete recovery for you!

(I'm lying about crashing. My handle is pronounced "Hurts a lot" for a reason)

Picture chocking your front wheel (a chock is what they use on aircraft to keep the wheels from rolling when they don't want them to) against a rock. Newton takes over at that point: Inertia says the mass will continue to move. In this case, directly over the front wheel. Much like a mousetrap lever does a 180 degree movement when the mouse eats the cheese......

I've done it on GE. It's instructive, if not fun.:whistling:

I wear elbow/forearm guards more often than I wear knee guards, because when I fall, I almost always roll over my forearms. Sometimes I hit my knees, but almost always my forearms. Plus they make nifty brush guards and poison oak protectors.

Oh crap. I just ruined my previous post about never falling. Nothing to see here. Move along....
