Please delete if this subject should not be discussed. A YouTube article showed about five individuals riding Santiago Oaks recently on one-wheel "e" vehicles. These are capable of up to 50 mph with a range of 100+ miles. They seem to be extremely illegal, but difficult to police.

    Great…

Is that the “ball like” contraption I’ve seen? There’s a guy who rides in O’Neill on one…

OC Parks will do like the do with Ebikes….absolutely nothing. They’d rather sit in the office and pretend to do their job.

and yes, they are not legal…just like ebikes.

Yes, they seem to be mostly stand up vehicles and the guys riding them weren't geezers since it takes stamina (AFAICT) and good reflexes. The controls are wireless and can't tell about braking which may be just regenerative or there may be a disc somewhere. One had a Fox rear shock. If you're interested, go to YouTube, Roger H, electric unicycle, Santiago Oaks.

That looks similar to the one I used to see in O'Neill, but a lot burlier.

Yeah, they don't quite understand that "no motorized vehicles" applies as it's motorized.
A fee months ago I was riding and one was coming down the trail, I saw it and stopped on the side of the trail to let them by. The guy had maybe 30 ft to adjust his trajectory but couldn't get it to go even a foot over to pass. Had to stop and get off... Giving me the dirty look. o_O heck, a mtb could have passed by no problem and I wouldn't have had to stop.

Today in Oneil, I stopped to let a guy and a girl go by, with a dog on a leash. Interesting part is I was standing 3 ft from a No Dogs sign. They looked at it and continued on with apparently no concern. Oh well.....woof.
Ranger my dog was bit by a rattlesnake!!!
Miss, there's a No Dogs sign for a reason. :p

Yep, many different kinds of those.
There's the e unicycle and the one wheel as biggest types. No controls, all balance like a Segway.
I have some friends who ride them. Still not legal in OC Parks.
There were a couple of idiots who tried to do BStar to Maple last year on them. Accidentally went down Skyline, then reversed and ran out of range and water in the heat. Got rescued by USFS. Almost Helo'd out but they didn't want to get charged.
    Idiots.

Funny thing, one of my good friends/bike buds runs a company that rents equipment for tours and stuff like the Grammys. He was talking about a dude that tunes pianos for them, I'm pretty sure it's our old friend. Who was a professional piano tuner.

I thought this was about this new one wheel board with a big fat tire. It looked cool, like a Segway with no handlebars. Looked like a great face plant machine out on the trails

This got sidetracked, but I perceive these as a big threat to MTB if/when an equestrian or hiker gets mangled by one and sues the county. The guys in the video looked competent, but not everybody will be as capable.

I saw a string of 6 riders riding these E type unicycles on Skyline Trail Big Bear last year. They were all dressed in full face helmets and body armor ready to take a potential digger.

I think the only positive is that hikers and equestrians will not confuse them for bicycles, unlike with some of the other e-machines out there.

They effed up some of the trails out in Mentone wash area. They sanitized the technical features so they could roll the whole thing.

What the absolute FAK is this??? IF I encountered this on a trail I would certainly go off on them. IMO this is worst than rollerbladers at a skatepark! Pretty sure I would block the whole trail if I saw these coming my way. Calling these unicycles is should be a crime in itself.

I agree with you that they won't be viewed as bicycles; my comment was a lawsuit could close a trail(s) to all "vehicles", and allow only hikers and equestrians. These guys seem to move around and show up en masse at a trail making policing extremely difficult (as if anyone was interested).
