New Meaning for "Wally" Bike

Walmart is having Detroit Bikes manufacture Schwinn 125th Anniversary Collegiate Bikes. They will be produced from frame tube cutting and welding through the entire build. I had one back a half century or so ago and welcome the good news even if the quantities are low.

 

The Pandemic has turned everyone into bikers. I went into my LBS yesterday and they are both sold out of inventory, and shutting down for 3 days to catch up on repairs.
It’s a good time to be making bikes, and that has name recognition.

Bike shops are swamped with activity and sales. Great problem to have.

My mechanic at Stage 21 says he can't get parts from suppliers - they are running out! Luckily, I got everything I need for my next project...

1974 or 75 - I had a yellow Schwinn Collegiate - the 5 spd version of the 10 spd Varsity - drop bars and all! Since it didn't have a front derailleur, it had a chainguard. Took that off immediately! I can't remember if it had fenders, but if it did, they came off immediately as well.

Varsity and Collegiate were Badass hunks of iron. Only Schwinn had the integrated kickstand! The Paramount was for real though. An actual roadie bike.

 

I had a mid-80s Schwinn Traveler... Oh wait, it's still hanging on the garage wall.

 

So many newbies out..its pretty cool to see, but there in my way!! Lol.

As proof of the demand, did anyone check out Jensons memorial day sale? Like 20 items..pathetic sale...and no real deals. Usually they have hundreds of items on sale.

I had a '70 (AIR) baby blue Continental. Fun bike that got me started.

 

So how did you keep your bell bottom pants from getting caught in the chain

 

Funny you should mention that. I remember a pair of super wide bell bottom jeans I had with a star in the bell. I wore hiking boots with them, cuz Colorado. Had to strap-em down or stuff into sock to ride a bike to school.
