Here to gather information and ideas to improve my 24 year old bikes. I know new bikes will be better but not ready to spend 4 grand yet on a new bike until ai know what I want. I really like my Proflex bikes and they are in remarkably good shape for a classic. Put 26 x 2.4 on front to soften up the ride and offer additional dampening.

We have a Garage full of Surfskis,. Need to be thoughtful in my bike spending. Told her this was to improve my paddling. Think it worked and it will work.

I had to google "surfski" and all the videos show it being used in the ocean.....with sharks. Since you live in TN, do you use them in lake & rivers or drive down to the Gulf to partake in that activity....with sharks?

We go to Gulf, atlantic and any other water just to excercise. We also take them on the Mississippi,. Down stream you can cruise at 11 to 12 mph. Great excercise.

@Mikie is the Proflex guru... And there are a couple other guys on the forum who are knowledgeable about older bikes. I'm not one of them... Come to think of it, I'm not really knpowledgable about the newer ones. :p

Welcome... Hopefully the guys here can give you some answers...

On a side note,. The 2.4 inch Vittorio Gina has been a really nice add to the front. It is far more grounded now and keeps the front on the ground better. Also went to 670 bars with a 30mm rise. It's the little things that make it better. Now if I can figure out what my rear shock keeps loosening after about 5 miles.

Different riding in Memphis versus SoCal.

I've been in the Charlotte area for about 9 months now and it is apples and oranges. In SoCal you might roll with a fatter tire in the rear... because you have a ton of climbing and some of it is in loose rocky conditions. 180 feet per mile is not uncommon and some bigger rides go up from there. In NC, you run a skinny in the rear because it is mostly pump style with slippery roots, trees, and an emphasis on front end maneuverability. 100 feet per mile... maybe 120 is what I am seeing.

So before you start thinking about your tire... you need to consider where you are going to be doing the majority of your riding.

I have a 2.1 in the back,. The frames don't fit much more. I was trying to compensate up front for the 24 year old suspension. The bike tracks well and performs well on the roots and leaves. Slipped alot less than I expected.

I've ridden those trails MANY times. I've probably ridden them ten times or so on mountain bikes and hundreds on motorcycles (years ago). Really fun and very different than here in SoCal!

You ride a Gyant out in Kansas! What’s your favorite trails out there. Could be heading that direction this coming summer.

    Thanks in advance.
