    All,
With so many riding Gravel Bikes it just seems like the right thing to do to provide a Forum home for them. Knowing so many folks that ride Gravel Bikes, they need a home too!

I built a poor man's gravel bike a few months ago...

It has 3 miles on it. Well, 2.5 actually, but I rounded up. :p

My plan is to do some combo rides from the house to get the fitness even higher. A good one would be home to Black Star to home. OR maybe even tack on Skyline... The brakes are the weak link, but I'll stick to the easier fire roads with it.

I got one of those gravel thingamajigs. It’s hanging on the wall with 2 flat tires.

    I do?

Actually I probably would ride it if I had someone to share in the suffering.

My wife doesn’t like it and thinks I should sell it (and a couple other bikes) and build a new V4 Ripley. Who am I to argue?

If you weren't in South Canada I'd ride my gravel bike with you....As it is kinda hard to get up there since Los Angeles is in the way. :gag:

I love grinding gravel, but I just use a mountain bike. Whatever flavor you pedal is alright with me. :geek:

For sure. That Juliana color is super classy looking.
I'm going with the green, but I don't LOVE it. I like the yellow, but it seems yellow does not hold up well on bikes. My .02.

Gravel bikes are good for when you live in the MidWest.

Any place with hills... go ride the hills!

Thanks Greg - I kinda disappeared from the riding scene. Health, business, relatives, you name it and it got me so far this year. I'm back on the gravel grinder full time and will post up soon.

I'm with the "meh" crowd. All I see is a road bike with beefier tires for the most part. You can call it whatever you want but it's a road bike. Kind of like ebikes are just mopeds....even if they want to call them "pedal assist" or whatever other names they come up with.

Road riding in the Inland Empire is tantamount to gravel grinding.

100% so... they are indeed road bikes with beefier tires! And that's why they're fun!

Here's an analogy from the motor-sports world:

I beg to differ. Not that it really matters.

A gravel bike is not a road bike. It is a drop-bar bike that can be ridden on the road but is not optimal for the road. It is designed to ride unpaved stuff. You'd be amazed where they can go. There are several gravel/adventure bikes (my Kona Sutra LTD comes to mind) that are in no way, shape or form a road bike. No matter how much they may superficially look like one.

It is not my intent to convince you to try one.

So they are similar in shape and form, just not way?

    No way!

When you get passed on something like this, you start to realize that either the bikes are more capable than you'd imagine, or some riders are really just that good. Granted, he was a pro and worked for Lauf, but still...

Zen Trail scouting mission with @mtnbikej and @horsebikerider . Not far from where the gravel bike passed me in the race.
