Congrats on the new rig! Now I gotta meet up with you for at least the first 10-15 miles of one of your 25 mile “quick spins” through Oaks.

    The Legend of Beefy

Beefy was/is, allegedly, a real person.

A couple of my buds were holed up in Joshua Tree, doing what climbing bums do in the Monument. I was finishing up exams, so came in late, but was regaled with stories of the fabled, portly figure.

A group of British climbers, Beefy among them, was touring JT and going after the classic medium-hard routes. The guys were pushing their limits and finding the climbing quite challenging as many do. The svelte team members would siege short climbs off the deck, each failing at a high point and lowering off for the other to give a try. Ad nauseum, until lactic acid forced their hands...

When the roster was mostly extinguished, they would summon their secret weapon, the unsuspecting and sheepish Beefy, of course. “Put Beefy on it! Where’s Beefy?!” The unlikely hero would thrash and thrutch, un-athletic and as gracefully as a mule on vertical rock. But! Beefy, topped by his ridiculous Joe Brown helmet, would send the shît. And the other guys would then follow on top-rope.

I never saw the team or Beefy, but the man has always stuck with me somehow. The unlikely hero; steadfast, methodic, and ultimately successful. Qualities that I admire in anyone or anything.

So it’s with my great reverence that @mtnbikej had inadvertently coined the nomenclature for my new bike. Beefy it is, because it is beefy. My only hope is that its pilot can live up to the proud moniker. Here’s to the Beef!

I guessed 27.5 lbs before weighing it at 27.56 lbs. Parking lot feels dreamy on the 2.6 rubber. Setback post and shorter stem in order. Ergon GP2 grips for the AZT. You know I got a laugh from iTunes shuffle picking out Shake Hands With Beef on the ride home.

    Mud clearance.

Pretty stoked to shake it down, lash on some bags and get lost. Trails tomorrow...

I knew that the frame on Trek Superfly was on deathbed, but I kept on riding it as long as I could.
I was hoping to figure out a way to ride it in the CC as a Single Speed, but I found too many cracks in the frame to ignore them.

I looked around the garage, and I realized that all I need for a "New bike" is a crankset and an Excentric BB. The XX1 crank on the Trek was too narrow (Q156).
I ordered the parts online and asked my buddy BK to put the bike together (I knew that he will do a better job them me).

The color combo is revolutionary and will set the new trend in bike design for the next few years.

I road it this weekend, and it worked fine.
There are only two glaring issues at this point.
First is the overall weight. @ 26.7 lbs it's just too heavy.
second is the fork, I haven't figure out a way to lock it out on the climbs. Maybe it is just me, but I don't like to see my fork bobbing when in out of the saddle.

Will I you it next Saturday. I'm not sure.
I believe that the EBB and the crank combo will work on my carbon HT, and its 6 lbs lighter (with a remotely looking fork).

Regardless, this bike is a keeper. I just need to clear some room for it........ What should I do with a broken Trek frame?

26.7 lbs......that is portly. I know it is a steel frame and all, but still.

I see the frame weight listed as 5.8 lbs without the EBB.

The DVO fork must be on the heavier side. My Chameleon frame weighs in at about 5 lbs. but built up to 24.7 lbs.

The DVO is not light! I think it' over 2kg (4.4 lbs.)

I do need to find a lighter 120mm fork, but the massive head tube made all my other fork too short.
I'll keep my eyes open for a suitable replacement in the near future.
A lighter set of carbon wheels would be nice as well.

Ouch... When I had the steel Mariachi, it was under 25, and I really didn't try. There was no carbon on it at all. If rain is going to be a concern on Saturday, I'll be with you on a heavy bike. The Chameleon is probably around 26 right now.

The DVO cannot be locked out for climbing. As you know, it has a six position low-speed-comression dial, which stiffens it up a little, but not much. Don't forget - that switch is counterintuitive, anti-clockwise makes it firmer.

And yes, the Diamond is about 1/3rd lb heavier than most forks in its class. It's meant for some pretty aggressive riding, so I would concur that it's not a good match for your singlespeed.

Cool looking rig anyway. Enjoy it, as you fine tune it to your needs/wants.

    23.5 pounds?

    And, it matches your truck!

I find it interesting how Spesh dropped the FSR/Horst rear suspension design on some of the new Epics and went with a single pivot instead.
