Thanks. I've never spent over $3700 for a bike, but I don't have any great contacts right now, and I decided to pull the trigger now rather than drop another $500 into my current bike when I was planning to replace it this winter anyway (4 years old - about the max for reasonable resale).

 

Nice to see that somebody has some money to spend on something nice. I sure as hell don't.

But did you not test ride this bike several months ago and did you not rip on it a bit back then? Regardless, I think you made an excellent choice, congrats!

I didn't rip on it in my review, per se (Click Here). I just wasn't as excited as I expected to be, mostly because the suspension wasn't set up right. It also felt really big. I think any mid-to-long-travel XL 29er will feel big compared to a 27.5. After giving it a thorough first ride today, my one-word impression of the bike is "limitless." The pedaling efficiency was very noticeable (however, it didn't make any difference in my ability to climb Cholla). I hope I can dial in the fork to the degree that I have my other bikes/forks. If I do, I am afraid for my general health and well being.

 

Yeehaw congrats on the new whip @herzalot... Thing should be a beast when you get her all dialed in. Pivot makes some great bikes. They really have a nice fit and finish.

 

On the way home from Wrightwood the other day, Jason mentioned that you might have taken the plunge. I knew it was the Firebird, as that was the only past review that you didn't completely bag the bike.

See... I do pay attention.

Disagree! Unless you’re talking bikes with matchymatch parts, which do nothing better than Mad Max bikes.

New bike day for my daughter. This is a 2019 SC Tallboy 27+/29r medium. It has the GX drivetrain with DT 370 Arc 27 29r wheels. I've been wanting to get her a trailbike for some time since most of her riding is climbing where she lives. She finally came home for the weekend but didn't go to her room right away. Finally her brother tells her that her bed was broken and hoped she could still sleep in it. So, she went to her room to investigate. Special thanks to MtnbikeJ who answered many questions I asked!

Herz.. ur bike looks just like mine.. I had the pivot 429trail for 4 or five years now.. the perfect bike for compromise between downhill and climbing.. no issues.. pure fun...I test rode the firebird..like that one too.. but it flattened out the floop too much.. almost wasn't mtn bkin.. firebird perfect fo Aliso....

 

I realize I am failing my children.

My Mojo HD3 review was favorable too.

In fact, the Firebird review was actually more negative than any of the above. I didn't bag on it, but I was mildly disappointed compared to my expectations. So why not buy one?
