After 9 years, it was time for an upgrade.

@horsebikerider has been bitten by the SS bug. We have converted her '09 Niner EMD into a SS several times over the years, but with the chainstay length and design, the need to use a tensioner, we were very limited on the gearing would could use. Did I mention I hate SS's with tensioners?

Well, the Niner was old enough that the rear is traditional QR, the steerer tube is 1 1/8" and it has a 70.5* HA.

The '12 Reba needed a little bit of work, replacement parts are hard to come by. I could have ordered a new fork from Fox with a straight steerer, but couldn't see putting a $800 fork on a 9 year bike.

So her birthday is coming up next month....so she got it a bit early.

She got a new Santa Cruz Chameleon....did you expect something different??

We were able to transfer over all the contact points, cranks, brakes, tires. She took back ownership of the pink King hubs on the AR27's. We borrowed the fork and headset from @Faust29 while we wait for her new fork.

Gotta replace the BB, and it was really notchy. I was able to pull the seals, clean and regrease it, but it still needs to be swapped out.

Also gotta replace the brake hoses, they are on the short side. Good thing I have some retired sets of XT''s in my bin that were from my large frames.

The King hubs are not Boost, but an MRP Better Boost kit for the front allowed me to continue using it on her Boost fork. Her rear hub is 142x12, so I gave her my 142 SS dropouts and put the 148x12 dropouts on mine.....(hint)....i built myself a new wheel.

    Size small frame. 67.2* HA

They call it Gloss Black....but it is more of a Satin Dark Grey

Thanks to @shawndoh at Pure Ride for helping me out.

    Shakedown ride today....

But this doesn't explain the green Torch hubs so you must have something else up your sleeve.

Not exactly new since I’ve had it for a couple of weeks, but somewhat new nonetheless. Didn’t really have a need for a new hardtail but I came across a smoking deal on what looked like a brand new Ibis DV9 XT build on Craigslist so I grabbed it. Sold the Tranny a few days later on Pinkbike to make room in the garage. The hardtail with the larger tires and a slacker head angle than the Tranny really is fun. The only downside is losing the ability to go SS easily, but I ordered a Trickstuff Exzentriker to handle that.

The weasel’s new 2017 bike. The first ever production Trail Pistol frame, transplanted from the Front Range with new bearings straight from GG.

Small TP, Rockshox Super Deluxe 120 mm (optional 130 mm “Pistola” setup with shock switch), spec'ed for 130-150 fork.

130 Pike RCT non-boost, used to hell, freshly serviced
    Arch Mk3/DT Swiss 240/Bonty XR4 2.6
    NextSL 28t/GX/e13 9-46
    XTR brakes
Stem and h-bar courtesy of mountain bike J. 50 x 35 stem, 800 x 35 mm bar (will be cut down to 785).
    Placeholder seat post*

*The rider is short with short legs. A small person riding this “small” frame (actually a more a “medium” size) who likes a 150 mm dropper…something has to give. The seat tube is too long and the stealth port too high (improved in 2018) for her existing dropper off the M Bronson. Queue PNW external routed mechanical dropper, it looks like a better solution that drilling a new stealth port in the frame…

The parking lot ride went well, with the overall bike feeling big and pedaling well. Read: perfect. Build will top 30 lbs with a dropper, as shown 29.3 lbs.

Considering the great service I've gotten from my '17 and '18 Smashes, we are confident in this bike's potential. All our active-duty bikes now have interchangeable parts, which is a totally cool thing.

    Bikes!!!!!!!!!! :inlove::thumbsup:

The V3 Ripley went to a new owner in Atlanta which opened up a spot in the garage. Was looking at the Ripley V4, but read that they were on backorder everywhere. On a whim I called the San Diego Ibis dealer when I was in the area and he said they had 8 frames hanging on the wall and one was the size large that I was looking for. Spent the last week or so building it up. I’m sidelined for a few more days with a sciatica issue so she won’t hit dirt for a few more days. :bang:
