The one thing normal people like about road they don’t often get with dirt is, distance. Riding 50 miles around an area really let’s you see a lot.

It’s a different kind of scenic. I always prefer dirt but I’ve seen nearly every spec of dirt in OC. Same goes for road but the road environment changes more often. That’s why I’m on my gravel bike so much. I get a bit of both and don’t need to slog road miles on my mtb to get to an area far from home. I just want to ride bikes, all bikes.

The best thing about gravel bikes. You can take whatever path you want and go as far and as fast as you want.

Fudge, I thought this was the draw of mountain bikes. Now I’ll have to ride only on dirt. I never should have logged on.

I'll rephrase. I don't like to ride my MTB on pavement and it takes a lot of effort to go fast on it. :)

I was surprised to find that my "road/gravel" hours seem to be better for building fitness than mtb. Most of the time off the mtb I'm just going what seems to be an easy pace whereas on the mtb it's hard work. Yet when I come back to mtb the climbs are so much easier than a steady diet of mtb affords.

Also it's distressing how fast you can go downhill on dirt on 38c with no tread to speak of.

Yeah. Less rolling resistance. I was surprised how much faster my gravel bike is than my MTB on the downhill. You just have to be mindful of the turns. :whistling:

20 miles on a road bike is like 50 in the dirt on a singlespeed..........

You can reach escape velocity and not even know it. Until it's too late.
