I'd rather be riding my Moxie, but the air is a little thick...

I can see @herzalot smacking his forehead with this one...

First run was a scouting mission. Second run starts a little after the 9:00 mark. "Probably looks like I'm riding like a squid. But I can't go any faster than that."

Only cost him the feeling in his hands, and a rear wheel...

Looked fun til he hit the jumps at the bottom.

Hmmm.....maybe the SS needs a Lyrik.

 

I couldn't tell exactly where he cracked the wheel... It looked like he landed most of the jumps smoothly.

 

I recall. It was a rock the back wheel landed on after a drop further up before the jumps. He made a comment when it happened. I even thought to myself that he had to have dinged the rim when it happened.

 

Nothing like the trails east end of Simi. But there are no table tops on east end of Simi, I h8 table tops. And there are signs, there are no signs on the gravity pirates trails, just point down straight down especially at the bottom. Those axle high turns are like the Bird except there is no giant boulder to block your vision.

Someone in the comments asked about inserts... With some wheel swapping going on for this endeavor, he didn't have any. I wonder if an insert would have saved the rim?

Those landings looked painful. My wrists and lower back hurt just sitting and watching.

 

Why don't we have some kind of hardtail tech sufferfest? Would that be fun or what? (Don't answer, herzie.)

What trail/circuit would work for that? The roughest DH you can think of. Drawing a blank on SoCal. I'd say Geronimo-Holbert at South Mountain, Phoenix.

 

The boyz of imtbtrails just did one up at WW, in the dark, no less!

 

That looked like a nice outing, but I'm thinking stuff that's hard to ride on a FS. Guy's gotta dream. I'd give it a rip on my HT.

 

Consider another @mtnbikej death march gravel grinder.

 

I can't think of a trail that I've done in SoCal that I would avoid just because I was on a hardtail... But I also don't mind walking. On the flip-side, there are definitely some climbs I'd avoid with the Hightower.

 

WW is less than techy. The dark didn’t make it any more technical.

 

South Mountain this winter. Holbert and Geronimo trails. @Tom the Bomb, @hill^billy and @evdog can testify, it's engaging technical riding. No rear squish will be a penalty...the Moxie would shine on that stuff. A plus tire in front wouldn't be unreasonable.
