That's scary as that park is so small its hard to get lost. There's also lots of visual land marks, etc. Hopefully hes not hurt and laying in a field.

Praying for him and his family that they find him safe and sound.

A couple of week ago I had planned a ride with my son and this place came to mind but after reading all the reports of the overgrowth there I opted to stay away.

How do they even know he made it into the park? The article says he was reported missing when he didn't show up to his mothers house. Maybe he never even went riding?:whistling: Either way, I hope the guy is ok. I can't imagine ever getting lost in CHSP. I think you'd have to be knocked the F out and have soem head trauma to get lost in that park.

    BREA, Calif. (KABC) --
A mountain biker who didn't return from a trip to Carbon Canyon Regional Park was found dead Monday afternoon.

Forty-three-year-old Sokha Pho, of Long Beach, was found by search and rescue team members in a remote area off Rafter Ridge Trail in the park, over the San Bernardino County line. Pho had obvious signs of trauma, according to authorities.

Parks officials said the man was an "experienced" mountain biker.

According to the man's family, he left home around 7:30 a.m. Sunday and headed to the park. He was expected back several hours later around 1 p.m. at his mother's house. He never showed up, prompting his family to call authorities.

The report triggered an hours-long search for the 43-year-old man Monday. Orange County and San Bernardino County authorities searched for the man on foot, by vehicle and by air.

Condolence to family and friends of Sohka.

Saddened. Take care, riders, and at least think about buying a PLB. It could save someone else's life if not your own.

Goes to show the power of something as simple as leaving a note with where you will be and how long. In this case it saved the family and authorities an untold amount of time searching for him. If his injuries were less serious it may have saved his life. And if you are a bachelor like me just shoot a txt to whoever you are dating for the moment (it makes her think you care about her a whole lot more then you really do).

Extremely sad news. Praying for him and his family.

My Garmin does have a feature where it can email someone in real time where I am similar to what @StrandLeper was mentioning. The problem is that most of the time I ride in areas where there is no cell reception in the ANF and that feature does not work. Anyone else have this issue?

Is not that small, it has 75 miles of combined trails. Small would be Sycamore in Riverside.

You would be lucky to get any cell reception inside carbon canyon. I usually text right at the trail head before and after the ride. My heart goes out to Mr. Pho and his family. That part of the park recently has been overgrown and dangerous. The increase in vegetation makes it very slippery and hides a lot of features that bucks you off the bike.

If you enter at the discovery center ranger station to pay your $5 parking fee, let them know that you will be riding alone and if when they close the park you vehicle still in the parking lot to look for you in the area that you plan to ride.

Yes... that feature (live track?) is pretty cool and the wife can see location, speed, heart rate, etc. But it's useless anywhere in the Cleveland National Forest. For the local parks, or the road, it's a great feature.

I always tell her my route, especially if I'm alone...

My wife isn't a huge fan of me riding alone. Because of that I use a gen 3 spot. It's overkill for mtb riding but with a 10 minute bread crumb feature only costing 150 dollars a year... it's worth it for the peace of mind. Also, it's completely stopped any mid ride phone calls of where are you, are you safe, when are you going to be home? Well worth the 12.50 a month.
