Oh wow... Is this the first tire to start life as a plus and then transfer to a regular size offering?
More aggressive than the Ikon, and probably less aggressive than the Ardent. Sign me up!
How Would these compare to Nobby Nics? I just picked one up at The Path sale today.
I don't know.....haven't run a Recon yet. The 27.5+ Recon looks like a really nice tire....aggressive yet rolls well. Can imagine it being better than the Ikon in terms of traction, but rolling better than an Ardent.
I have no experience with the current Nobby Nic....although I hated the original version.
There are a few other interesting ones in there! Like a wider Rekon and a 2.6 Ardent Race...
Dude! That's tire porn!
The Ardent Race 2.6 is 27.5
I can’t find it for sale anywhere yet, but it’s now showing up on their website...
The weights are definitely interesting.
Be interesting to see how the Rekon translates to a 29'er at 2.25.
I can tell you as a 27.5 x 2.8 plus it is an amazing tire.
I'm thinking of the 29er as a rear tire that should be a little more aggressive than the Ikon, but similar weight. But... I'm also considering a 27.5 x 2.6 for the back of the plus setup...
I like choices.
I'm waiting for the 29×2.6 Forekaster. I think for me it will be the best of both worlds.
29 x 2.6 sounds really good for my XC bike. The RaRa 2.35 is 630g, the Hans D is 850. Even if it is a narrow 2.6 that's still a nice inbetween.
I couldn't say it better myself.
My only concern is the BB height of the plus setup.
Another option is 29" Recon front/Icon back.
Somebody @ Maxxis is f**king with us!
Aka "maximizing revenue." Some folks will just have to have both.
The 2.6 seems like too much tire for me....but the 2.25 for the rear on the SS sounds perfect.
Getting closer... The 29x2.6 is now available on the Maxxis website... For $92.
The 2.25 shouldn't be far behind.
Yeah, BTI now has them both listed...but they are Out Of Stock/Coming Soon.
Their tires are generally %20 off at any number of online retailers.
Yeah... But we're just watching for release date. The 2.6 was just made available, and we're still waiting for the 2.25.
Yeah, I’ll wait til Jenson has them for $60’ish.
Of course. I'm waiting for the 29×2.6 Forekaster.
Anyone rolling on the Rekon 29x2.6 yet? I need a bigger tire for my HT for a lil' more cushion and better traction.
I see them available in a few places online for $74. Seems like a lot for a tire even though that is below MSRP.
Mike, I'll be on them in a week or two; they'll be on a steel HT. Super psyched...seems like a great tire for many uses. I'm thinking a good desert bikepacking tire, but also a light-ish option for aggro HTs that do big rides. I'll take the weight/resistance ding for the extra traction and cush.
Well that's the thing. The specs on the Maxxis website state that these tires weigh only 780 grams in an EXO shell. That's hard to believe and certainly not heavy for a tire of such size.
What sort of price range did you settle on for the purchase?
Agreed, surprising weight. Not sure what I paid, it was with several other items, no itemizing. On the cheap side, I think.
Looking forward to some feedback!
I’ve been running the 2.6 on the front of the Ripley for a few weeks and really like it. Good grip, lots of air volume and a pretty good roller. I just ordered another one for the rear. The first one weighed in right at the advertised weight. The one that I just received is a little more at 800 grams.
Anyone try the 29×2.25s yet? Looking to replace the Nobby Nics on Jennifer's Ripley. Looks like it might be a good tire for her.
Steve got one....but I think he has only ridden it once.
Yep... I have one easy spin on the 2.25 that I mounted on the back of the Highball. I think it's going to be a decent tire, but it's nowhere near as meaty as its 27.5+ sibling. The knobs are more in line with "Ikon on a dash of steroids" height. I'd say it's nowhere near as aggressive as a Nobby Nic. Hmmmm... I have one in the garage. I could put them side by side.
There is supposed to be a 2.4 coming... I can see that as a nice combo.
