No bike on this trip. There have been drought winters where I could have ridden Lower Rock Creek - not this year. My drive-by estimate at the trailhead was 3 feet of the white stuff.
I took a few pictures on the trip. Have a look if you are interested.

Mount Whitney on Wednesday. Slightly shrouded by clouds. Whitney is the peak to the right. I don't know the name of the mountain that looks taller. It is not. It is just closer.

Nice snowblower work by the city of Mammoth. Lots of snow up there.

Whitney this afternoon. I drove a little further up Whitney Portal road for this shot. The amount of detail you could see was impressive. Clear winter air sure makes a difference.

Great pics. Whitney Portal is the gateway to a super special place for me. I always love staring up from 395 and thinking of all that lies back there. Below is a pic of my sunrise view for several mornings this past July waking up in the shadows of Whitney. Below that, what our place in Mammoth looked like walking in at 10pm tonight. Snow is coming down good now too. Tomorrow should be aight.

Thanks for the eye candy, CBone and buggravy.:inlove:

Alabama Hills makes such a surreal foreground for winter shots of the Fisherman’s Peak* group. Lone Pine Peak appears the hulking monster it really is, 13k+.

*I prefer the old name, homage to the unassuming first ascenionists rather a USGS employee who never topped out.

Surreal is a good descriptor of Alabama Hills. A photographer could spend years shooting there.
