Had to go to Mammoth for work last week so I took my bike with me. My wife came along and my daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter came up too. Between work and family I snuck in a couple of short rides. I usually ride up to the lakes and ride Lower Panorama/Mammoth Rock.

I don't have any pictures of Lower Pano. It is short and sweet with grippy dirt, berms, some roots and rocks. Fast and fun stuff. Pano ends along Old Mammoth Road. You then ride down the road a bit to catch Mammoth Rock Trail.

Trail drops to the right here and you can see it traversing the side of the mountain in the distance.

There is nothing too steep but there are some rock gardens and some short climbs that are a bit tricky because of rocks and loose dirt.

The very bottom is a disaster with deep sand caused by runoff and horse hooves. It wasn't bad enough to ruin the ride though. After asking around I found out there is an option where you can bypass this part. I'll take that next time.

Bonus Pic. Sunset at Minaret Vista (not part of the ride unfortunately)

Wow, nice scenic with the Minarets!

For sure, location is everything – you gotta love when it comes together. Glad you exploited conditions and posted up to show how it's done.

This is Mammoth Rock and is above the town of Mammoth. Chrystal Crag is above Lake George and can be seen from the lakes but not the town. It would be awesome if there was a mtb trail by Chrystal Crag - hikers only up there.

I started this ride at Horseshoe Lake. There is a nice little singletrack called Horseshoe Lake Jam on the south side of the lake that had a couple of stream crossings due to melting snow- in August! Just crazy. Upper Panorama starts where you see the arrow and Mammoth Rock Trail is next. The trail head is just up the road from the parking lot at Lower Twin Lake.
