    Hey all,
So I'm gonna ride Mag 7 in moab after doing the LPS, UPS, porcupine... but going w/ about 8 to 10 guys.. I'm thinkin some might be over their heads... like I might be over my head!
Mag 7, the portal trail... ok to walk the crazy sections? I've been on Mt. Wilson, merrills, sunset, Strawberry,, everything in OC... all doable and enjoyable ..
you all think its Mag 7 is doable for OC level riders? if not, good places to bail out?

Plan is Porcupine, Mag 7 and then Captain Ahab...

thanks for any info... saw the you tube and seems easy enough to walk sections of the Portal ... I like living...

You can easily walk sections of Portal and Blue dot (or whatever they call it now). I wouldn't bail on those because of reputation. There are only a couple of "must walk" spots on Portal and they are rideable, just with the penalty for failure being death. Ride it, have fun, and take pics!

I can't even look at pictures or videos of Portal without getting scared to death. Nothing recreational is worth a 500'+ plunge to your stupid death.

Well, unless it's to post on YouTube of course... :cautious:

The walk or die sections amount to about a 100m of trail. The rest of the trail and the views are worth the effort.

You are suggesting the FLOOP can prepare you for mountain biking. On trails? :p

I understand what you’re saying but it’s all relative to what you enjoy doing. I guarantee there’s plenty of people who would say you’re psychotic if they saw the speeds you attained while racing on skis in your heyday. There have been plenty of people that have met their maker after a crash while skiing.

Portal actually looks worse on video than in person. I survived Portal w/o a scratch yet somehow fractured my neck while going 1-2 mph at my local riding area on an 18 *INCH* drop, no need to fall 500 feet.

Thanks for the props, but I was mostly a slalom and giant slalom specialist. Occasional Super G. Not that crazy DH Sh!t.

My worst crash on a MtB was on a mellow section of trail with a slight up hill. But my point wasn't about getting injured, my point was that huge exposure and certain death for a mistake makes me cringe. Clearly many of you are unaffected by exposure. Cool.

I am with Herz. I hate exposure and would never ride trails where I can fall to my death for a stupid mistake. I know, most don't care about exposure, but I literally freeze and have a complete mental block. My biggest fear is riding a trail and coming up to an exposed section that I refuse to ride or walk, and there might not be a turn around. I miss out on a lot of good riding, I am sure, but that is something, I just can't get passed. Reading about the Flume trail in Lake Tahoe made me never want to ride there either. Just seeing the cliffs out of the corner if my eye gives me the creeps. I enjoy your guys' pictures, though :)

As a fellow exposurephobe, the Flume is fine. Not even close to an issue.

Oh and good to hear from you Sylvia (@mtbfan) - it's been a while!
