I have a project in Wyman Canyon and another in Aspendale. I'll ride daytime gravel grinds if I can get some company willing to make a pass at 25 mph.

I didn't mean 25 mph; I meant to say 25 degrees. Join the "hydration hose freezes" club!

It froze just below 7,000' and remained "crunchy" the entire way down. I saw a skunk and a doe. No mountain lions or bobcats or trout or Paiutes.

I was going to suggest filling your camelbak with an alcohol-based hot toddy, but you might've beat me to it.

This was one of those knucklehead solo rides after midnight in the freezer. Had I struck my pedal like @Mikie, I might have died...or I might have at least made the local news. My emergency plan included lots of safety gear, you know, to get into the groove, and coordination with the front desk of the Holiday Inn Express (really, the Holiday Inn Express) in Bishop: I advised them to call my cell at 3am. (There is no cell reception anywhere on Lower Rock Creek Trail). If I didn’t answer, call again. If still no answer, call 911 and tell them i’m in a white Jeep parked at the lower Trailhead of Lower Rock Creek, White Mountains Ranger District, Inyo National Forest. I gave a description of my attire and gear, coordinates of the upper and lower trailheads, and planned route of attack (must stick to the plan for these shenanigans).

The hotel called me as I was being served a skillet at Denny’s off the 395, which led to a stellar review of the hotel on Yelp or Google, I forget which, but the mission was accomplished, and I have my memories, which make me giddy to this day. Thanks to the slot machine and @Cyclotourist for the reminder, and to @mike and @Mikie for inspiration. Till next time!

I do the same thing when I am on travel and rent a bike. I also put a sheet of paper on the front seat of the rental car giving the hotel name and desk phone. Even when I travel I only seem to ride into the twlight
Happy "we own the night" trails
