No one wanted to brave the cold. So, I went looking for foul weather this am. Found it up past Chilao. Up at 6200ft. Roads wet, strewn with rocks and gravel, black ice in shady corners. Temps in the high 20s to mid thirties. Winds gusty, moisture - laden clouds moving very quickly beneath the lenticulars Snow and ice everywhere. Missed you out there @mike Started out wet and cold Couple of miles and 700ft gain later Ice was the theme for the day if you zoom in you can see ice chunks falling from the sky The ice would rain down in the wind, pulled from the trees and dropped into shard piles that looked like broken auto glass. Started to clear up as I dropped into Chilao The reward It was really cold and wet but I was not too uncomfortable. As long as I kept moving I was alright. I wore a merino base layer long sleeve t shirt and a wicking t shirt under my Showers Pass jacket. A Deflect fleece head warmer, PI WXB gloves, and Shimano gore tex shoes kept the nether regions warm and dry. If it wasn't so cold I probably would have gotten wet from all the ice and water I was knocking from the heavily laden brush. For the most part the ice was crunchy and quite fun to ride. There were a few Oh Shït moments rolling over iced-up roots and rocks but it was still fun. I ended up just getting a coffee at the ranch as the cook hadn't made it up the hill from Palmdale yet No bad days, just bad gear, right @mtnbikej @Cisco Roots?
