The Cosmic Cafe at Mount Wilson Observatory will be closing for the season, and this is the last weekend. :-(

The ride starts from Altadena- goes up Lower Sam Merrill Trail and then continues on to Inspiration Point, Markham Saddle, Eaton Saddle, and eventually to Mount Wilson. The main climbing portion is roughly 14/4500. The cafe has a decent menu of extremely overpriced fare for purchase. After that, we will descend the road to the Gabrielino Trail for 13 miles of skinny, technical and exposed single track all the way back to JPL. Trucker Pads not recommended. Short road spin back to the start, with a taco diversion always possible.

What trail are you planning on between LSM and Markham? And on the descent, which route to the Gab?

 

After LSM/Echo Mtn Trail, we usually climb Mt Lowe FR all the way to Mt Wilson Road. Then we usually take Mt. Wilson Road back down to Redbox and jump on the Gab there.

Hmmm... This ride is tentatively still on for this weekend, and the consensus seems to be that Sunday is the better day. I say "tentatively", because I can't see the webcams at Mount Wilson right now. They seem to be iced over.

 

WOOO! I got the hall pass...after the kids go to bed.

 

So... It looks like there is presently a threesome of mountain madmen for this one. With Brown and El Prieto showing signs of damage from the recent rains, the Gabrielino could hold some interesting susprises. I'll charge the GoPro.

I had plans to join, but have a long day in Baker tomorrow. I’ll have to make a decision Saturday night, all pending on how beat up I am.
