Apparently an arrest was just made.

One of the Canyon residents.

 

Well, that did seem to be the origin area. But, they aren't supposed to be residents. They are supposed to be recreation cabins.

 

Not sure what happened in the last hour (wind picked up or shifted?) but it got real ugly looking again. Pics from about 15 minutes ago in Mission Viejo. Note on the non-zoomed pic the round-ish mountain on the right on the horizon is Sugarloaf near San Juan trail and Cocktail rock.

 

On Tuesday night, a 51-year-old man who lives in a cabin in Holy Jim Canyon was arrested in connection with the fire, according to the Orange County Register. Forrest Gordon Clark was taken into custody of O.C. Sheriff’s deputies after he allegedly sent an email last week which read, “this place will burn,” the Register reports.

Of the 14 cabins in Clark’s area, his is the only one that was not destroyed, the Register reports.

It’s unclear what charges he might face. He is being held on $1 million bail, according to jail records.

 

Yeah, I’m on the south side of Camp Pendleton and when I went outside this morning at 10:30, I saw that huge plume and assumed there was a fire on the base again.

On the plus side, my friends that live in Big Bear say the air quality is still OK up there. I’m hoping it stays that way so I can ride SkyPark on Saturday

 

It’s safe to say that Upper HJ has been hit?

 

I'd guess so from the East facing camera on the peak.

I was at the lake just as the plane was dropping its load in the area of the peak... It does look like a nuke went off from this angle. I have no words if a canyon resident was responsible. Incomprehensible.

Ho.Ly.Sh!t. Threatened officers with a sword. Runs around naked screaming conspiracy theories. Emails arson threats. WTF, why didnt they get this guy out of tehre after the arson threats

 

People that live on the fringes do so for a reason.....many don’t wanna be found or live within the confines of normal law.

The articles are lacking important details to make any judgments though the guy is clearly not playing with a full deck. The being said, the requirements nowadays for getting a 72 hour hold on somebody are exceedingly narrow in scope. Even when you get them in, 98% of the time the doctor gives them a shot of haldol (or some other wonder drug) to set 'em straight for a bit and then releases them within 24 hours. Just being crazy isn't enough.

 

no, but if an arson threat was treated like a bomb or terrorist threat (which it should be) it would be enough.

 

I finally bit the bullet and signed up today. I've been missing the local news reporting (no matter how bad it is).

You would think that if I signed up, gave credit card info, etc I'd be able to access the site now. Unfortunately I was told (after I signed up) that it will take THREE TO FOUR days to process my payment before I can set up an account and log in. I can;t even cancel my subscription because it is not active yet.

Once again, w/o knowing all the details, it's not easy to make a conclusion but I can tell you "this place will burn" will never be enough to be to arrest somebody.
