    Current situation:
    2019 Salsa Timberjack, 27.5+ 1x10. 28t/ Shimano Deore 11-42

    Riding frequency:
    110% Weekend Warrior, every Sunday.

Why do I want to swap?
Because I could use the extra help from the big rings in the back.

Looking for something that isn't going to break the bank. Would like to try to stay around the $300 range or less.

    What I've found thus far:
    $275

    $290

I think NX is only for shimano type rear hub bodies.

You could just throw a 46 T shimano cassette on for cheaper and almost same gears.

    Or E13 cassette or ....

11-speed stuff is dirt cheap now. 28 x 11-46 SLX cassette. You didn't mention your existing cassette, but if you go 12-sp you'll have to get a new hub driver. I don't think any 11-sp systems go to 50t rear. On a 29er with up to 3" tires, 11-46 does everything including bikepacking. YMMV. I've searched for justification to adopt 12-sp, came up short every time.

Thanks, I wasn't even aware of the various types of hub bodies.

Thanks Mike. Current cassette is a Shimano Deore 11/42.

Thinking the 11/46 SLX might be the way to go then! Would I need a longer chain?

Cool, you saved the driver cost if you go 11-sp Shimano. Those are nearly $100. Not sure how much the micro-spline 12-sp driver is.

    XT der $70
    XT shifter $40
    SLX 11-46 cassette $58

Assuming 46 is what you want in back.

fwiw, you can get an nx eagle setup for just about the same money. I sold a complete brand new nx eagle setup on this very website for $200 dollars about a month ago. I priced it about 20-30 bucks under the going market rate at the time. However, now there is SX eagle which slots in just below NX and is even cheaper.

The 11 speed 11-46 option isn't a bad one... but i'm just throwing this out there in case you are starting to consider buying used 11 speed components. I'd honestly look to go with a 1x12 based on NX or SX eagle before throwing more then 100-130 dollars at an 11 speed upgrade.
