I recently sold off two bikes to make room for a new one that just arrived last Friday and was built up well into Saturday morning. Why do I do such things? This is a Ripley V3 XO1 build. I have upgraded the wheels to Roval Carbon 30mm internal, saddle, bars and grips and it has the 2.6 tires. Bike weighs 26.1lbs with pedals.

With all the soccer events and preparation for the graduation of my oldest, I only had a chance to ride it briefly so far and it seems very nice. I am liking the 2.6 tires and it has that familiar Ripley feel--efficient and fun. I can also say that the latest Fox suspension works considerably better than the CCDB inline or older Fox I had on my last Ripley. Oh and it is significantly stiffer.

Ibis bikes require FULL assembly, unlike Specialized or Santa Cruz.

    Nice bike.

What's the rational behind choosing the Roval Carbon 30mm (vs. Ibis wheels)?

HB, not much logic as much as opportunity. I had the Rovals (so cheaper) and they weigh about 150g less than the 942 wheels. I do like the looks of the Ibis wheels better.

That turned out really nice. I thought I liked the Vitamin P, but after seeing yours I might have changed my mind. Drool. Now go ride the crap out of that beauty.

Wowzers, man, eye candy that rips.

Very interested in your impressions of the bike, and how it compares to the TB3. Enjoy the research ;)

Happy to talk via phone for more details Mike.

Both bikes feel really good and it's not a fair apples to apples comparison. Both have identical Roval wheels and weigh almost the same, but the Ripley has 2.6 tires weighing almost a pound more (rotating) than the TB3. Randy and I are about the same size so the setups are very similar. With the 2.6 tires the Rip seems more robust, has better traction and seems more trail-worthy where the TB3 is more spry and quicker on pedaling but more sketchy and firmer. Much of that has to do with the tires. That said, the Ripley still feels like it would be as efficient or more with similar tires.

Overall I prefer the Ripley and this latest version is wonderfully refined, stiff and efficient. A great heavy XC to moderate trial bike. I'd say the TB3 is also super fun, but just a bit more XC. Both are really great bikes and I'd be happy with either.

Drool worthy ride. I'm also thinking about selling my two and get one. One bike with two sets of wheels.
