On my drive in to work this morning into the Antelope Valley I see large billowing smoke from the direction of Big Bear!
Any word on where this is?
    Thank you!

News is reporting that it is 27 miles away from Big Bear. Planning on riding there Saturday. Hopefully no smoke.

Currently the smoke is blowing North East so it would be away from Big Bear...

They are reporting Jenks Road which is on the other side of the highway from SART. Big Bummer because there are trails in that area just not ones most people ride. Got worse overnight. Hope poop-out hill does not burn. I poach Southfork Trail from Wilderness sign to Jenks Lake often.

you too? where you riding? I was planning on doing a skyline loop. about 20-25 miles but now I'm SUPER bummed out about this fire. all it takes is a change in the wind pattern and i will be choking on the smoke. :(

let me know if you want to meet up for the skyline loop.

Unfortunately I'm not going to make it as our group cancelled. OTB is already up there and said nothing but clear blue skies. Maybe hook up with them? Not sure what they will be riding Saturday.

1500 acres and 5% contained. It will be very sad if the restored trappers cabin on South Fork trail is lost.

Wind shift. Do yourself a favor and pick another weekend. Can't see the dam from Stanfield Cutoff right now.

Mikie, no official word, however I was listening to the scanner as the first engines arrived on scene and their message to Comm Center was large illegal campfire near the water tanks at Camp DeBenneville. "Please dispatch a LEO"

Mike Robin from the smoke it looks like that fire may have crossed into the wilderness area. It will stop when it gets to Palm Springs. Just like the station fire stopped when it got to Antelope Valley.

The wind shifts constantly up here. At 7 am this morning it was fine up on Skyline, by 10 the air was thick with smoke and the east end of the valley air was horrible. By noon it was back to clear as the wind shifted out of the north.

I tried a road ride up 18...got as far as the Strawberry Peak fire lookout before I decided to turn around. Couldn't see the fire lookout just above the road, and there were some ash particles that made it to the Crestline turnoff. The early morning lack of wind and inversion is great to suppress the fire and for fighting it, but horrific for doing anything outdoors.
