I Rode My Bike Today...

Sooo yesterday’s ride got me thinking about a single speed again. I had to ride so slow it was difficult. I think @mike has the right idea to ride an SS when with the spouse..that’s pretty darn genius!:thumbsup:

It will be insanely difficult to ride as slow as your husband with his bailout gears... Your first time on the single speed, you're going to knock 10 minutes off your climb to the trailhead.

And then you'll PR every other climb you've ever done... And some of the downhills, too. :p

@rossage

Silver Moccasin and Mount Hillyer at the beginning, Mount Pacifico in the middle, and Mount Hillyer again at the end! I was given the option to bailout and skip the second Mount Hillyer loop. Pretty sure it was a test. :p I walked, but I got my ass over that wall again at the end! :Roflmao

This was a good day. Freaking epic.

It really hurt getting to this spot...

Bikes needed a breather after the climb. Especially the white one. It was a Santa Cruisin descent back off the mountain...

Topping out at 7000ft on a beautiful day out in the San Gabes.
The wall got us today. Loose and with unfamiliar gearing, I'll get it next time.
Silver Mocassin is wide open from Christian Camp to Chilao. Dry and dusty.
Hillyer is getting loose as usual.
The climb to Pacifico gets steep right at the end but the 100+ mile views are worth it.

Get some!

Oh right..didn’t think about that part..so a SS won’t help me to go slower only faster :D
I’m ok with that, but he won’t be:whistling:
Next up for me is a 29er hopefully.ill take a SS donation tho :rolleyes::p
Oh, and your ride pics are top notch! Looks just awful up there

Looking forward to some video.

Did a fun little solo ride here in Truckee yesterday - Sawtooth, up 06 fire road and Lower Big Chief. About 17 miles and 2000 or so ft of elevation. Temps were good, trails were good, views were incredible! Barely saw any people on the trails.

The effort that went into building some of those trail segments is impressive!!! Looks fantastic!

Big Chief is awesome!

T-2 and I rode that last year. Big elevation but big payoff.

My work gave us the day off for Juneteenth so me and a couple buds hit up a classic. Ranger Creek Palisades loop off of 410. The climb up Ranger Creek is no joke but the payoff is incredible! Palisades trail brings you along the edge of a sheer cliff with amazing views of the valley and Mt Rainier on a clear day. There are waterfalls and streams along the way. So beautiful.

Yup that’s me rocking the IMTB Jersey too. Still representing!

You come home from a thankless week of OT days and find a note from your wife that reads I'm sorry – it's over. You can keep the dishes and silver settings, I took your new bike. My new guy rides harder than you, is better looking, and is your exact size. And he doesn't always get lost. And he doesn't snore.

So, yea. I'm okay with missing some hero dirt. :geek:

Picture slot machine. I concede to everything except the bold text because I will respond accordingly. :sneaky:

Nice lil quickie through Cherry this morning. I got there just as the sun broke through, DOHH!!! The place was almost completely vacant, a nice change from the afternoon crowds. Today was the Year of the Whiptail. I saw 10 of those bad boys darting around in front of me. Two of them were getting it on.:D

10ish miles and the usual elevation gain that goes with it.

Stateline Loop, I'll call it, Truckee River Canyon.

Cranking up from high desert river canyon into national forest and big trees around 9.7 miles, descend trail x and finish rolling downstream on the river Bikeway. 21/3200/4:20 Found a new way through the forest, pedal-able on SS the whole way. No humans, one cautious deer, impressive views, beautiful forest.

Lush environs made me think of wildlife.

Hmm...

A few minutes later I heard some good-size branches snapping off the road. I dropped my bike and walked up for a vantage point. I saw a bear 15' up a rotten tree; it downclimbed and foraged 35' from my position on the edge of the road. I was sure the bear knew I was there, but as I got my last photo it saw me and bolted.

Brown black bear forages

Shyt, that was cool! A short time later I was dropping into the badass trail x. I've completed the transition from being gripped to having fun on this steep DL beauty. Cleanest run yet, and recovered the weez's lost waterbottle en route.

My SS was a little slow on the flats coming back, but otherwise it's hitting the spot perfectly. So fun hammering a few hours of quiet cardio then white knuckling with confidence. Don't be surprised if you see a Pike Ultimate 150 appear on it. Cuz, why not?

Bikes again! :)

I haven't been riding much lately because I bought my GF some ASICS so I've been running/training with her. I was going to try La Tuna Canyon today but the pictures from TrailForks and MTBProject made it look like it was mainly fire roads...kinda boring. Instead I hit up old faithful Cherry Canyon + two laps at Catalina Verdugo.

9.89 miles
1:29 moving time
top speed 30 mi - I think fastest ever.
Good times - yes.

I bailed out on the early Strawberry shift and went out in the second wave with a special guest from the OC. Hopefully he'll chime in with his thoughts on the loop.

I will say that I kept seeing two sets of tracks in front of me all morning... And it seemed like some of the buckthorn wasn't as grabby. Probably an illusion. :whistling:

Fun times!

Ya, wow @mike ! What an awesome gift to see that bear, and not get chased!
! I do consider it nature's humble blessing to me that I...was not mauled, my organs ravaged, and left for the vultures!!!!!! :p:D

First thing I do is look for cubs...but this one looked like an overgrown cub. Any cubs, I am out of there, no pics. Poor thing just looked up, saw me looking like an idiot tourist, and bam, he flew. I'm always stoked to see a bear foraging in the woods rather than in the trash.

Last day of riding here in the Durango area before moving down to Prescott for a couple days. I'll probably hike with the dog rather than ride since I'll only have a half day free. Today was what is normally an easier day at Boggy Draw above the town of Dolores, CO. However, the 7800' elevation definitely effected me from the get go. Luckily the local I was riding with wasn't feeling at full strength either. We had great weather & clear skies for our 17.8 mile ride.
