It really was a brutal climb, but worth it on the DH. If you do go watch out for a downed tree on the last 1/2mi section!

Another ride from home. Rode over to Cherry Canyon, climbed the fire roads, dropped in on GSC and did the Catalina Verdugo ST. I stuck with the fire roads after that and climbed up out of GSC and back over into Cherry. Did a fun steep/short DH fire break. At the bottom of it is an over developed jump and I hit it at speed which caused a nice endo landing right in front of a cutie she-rider. How embarrassing. I was laughing, she was laughing. Started out feeling sluggish but at 8 miles, my legs woke up. Life is good.

Little spin through the hills and back home. Brought the lights to make sure they still work, success! My mileage has dropped sooooo low recently. With the time change, and weekends being crazy-busy, just can't get out there. Committed to riding in the dark, and it was no big deal. I do feel really exposed out on the roads coming back home. But lived to tell the tale!!!

LCWP from Laguna Canyon with @Bill. Up Willow, Missing Link/Fenceline, Lizard, Camarillo, Stagecoach... back up Willow and over to T and A. Lots and lots of bikes out today, and a few hiking groups. They get spread out more at LCWP than they do at Aliso. We ran into a little bit of traffic on Fenceline, Lizard and Camarillo, but nothing drastic. Oh, and and a pair of horses on the fireroad before Lizard. No problems. T and A (Laguna Ridge) was empty.

Sunny, dry and not very hot. One blood sacrifice. A few mechanical tweaks. Lots of fun and smiles! 14.5 mi/2200'.

Bikes are fun!!! Bikes with amazing brakes are even more funerer!:cool:

    Thanks for the camaraderie, Bill!

Good to see you getting out there so much lately. Maybe it’s just coincidence, or other outside forces, but it seems the new rig has given you some new life blood.

Thanks. I had increased my riding prior to the new rig, but then yes, I have stuck with it due to my desire to get familiar with it and get it dialed in. My riding is now back to the frequency it was prior to me rediscovering surfing in summer of 2018, then ski season last year, then surfing again this summer.

However - Mt. High opened today, and I have a season pass and a new board/bindings. :cautious:

Whoa... What a day. 7:00 meet up at the professor's with @mtnbikej , but we were denied a prompt departure. As I was loading the Professor's bike on the rack, I noticed this on the rear tire. It must have happened on our San Juan ride in the rain the other day. The only two pictures I took today...

    IMG_0353.jpeg

    IMG_0354.jpeg

He got it changed pretty quickly and we were on the road. Short drive to San Juan trailhead where we were greeted by more cars than I've seen there before... We headed up, but only saw three other climbers on the way to Cocktail Rock. There were, however, a few descenders.

At Cocktail rock we hung a left and took Old San Juan. Ruts, roots, HAB, oh my! It was much more enjoyable than the last time on the single speed. At the intersection, we jumped back on San Juan and headed for Bluejay. There were a few shuttlers coming down, including one who didn't think he needed to give the climbers the right of way- on a section of roots and rocks that we were pedaling up. Seriously, Dude...

At Bluejay we ran into the shuttle van. Another large group started down ahead of us, but we caught them long before the Viejo Tie turnoff. Viejo Tie... Holy cow that was a new one. Narrow, overgrown, technical, rocky. I'd do it again. No pics- go see it for yourself. And no, I didn't ride the rock that @Tom the Bomb rode!

Back down San Juan... There may have been a couple unplanned dismounts. What was it that someone said recently? Watch where you're going? Good advice... Note to self: Don't fiddle with the front brake lever while moving.

Freaking awesome day... even with the ice pack on my knee. :p

Hey, don’t be sorry, and don’t feel like you’re rubbing it in. This place exists to celebrate what we love doing and if I didn’t want to read it I’d just stop poking my head in here. My current situation will just make me appreciate that much more on the other side.

Wasn't in the mood for a death march today. Figured with the weather next week, we will be limited to Maple Springs/Motorway, so I didn't want to do that today. @Faust29 mentioned a full San Juan Trail again.

So that is what we did. However we mixed it up a little bit. After the mechanical at the Professor's house got sorted out, we got started a little later than anticipated.

The parking lot was full. Cars parked parallel instead of head in. Anyway we started climbing....heard voices above us. Eventually we'd catch and pass that group. A few riders coming down was all we saw to Cocktail Rock. Made the left at Cocktail Rock and rode Old San Juan Trail. Fun trail. Pretty beat up, but fun. Back at "new" San Juan Trail we continue on up to Blue Jay Campground for water.

We caught the van group of shuttlers at the trailhead and kinda got into the middle of that group. Within a few minutes we worked our way out in front of them. Caught the other group we passed on our way up to Blue Jay.

Made the left turn onto Viejo Tie. Now it has been about 6-7 years since I had been on this trail. Remembered some of it, didn't remember a lot of it. First half was pretty open, 2nd half was kinda overgrown. Fun, techy trail.

Before long, we were climbing back up to Cocktail Rock. Cleaned some more of it, still a few spots that have my number.

Back at Cocktail Rock, a group rolled as we got there, so we let them go for a little bit. Didn't want to catch and try to pass them on the first section down from Cocktail Rock. Fun run down. Any bit of tackiness we had on the way up, was all dried out on the way down.

Good day out on the mountain. Great day on the trail. Excellent ride.
