Short Blackstar ride. Tree Farm to the top of the first set of switchbacks, 11.37 miles and 1,283. When I arrived it was 85 degrees. Too hot for me so I waited till 7:00 PM to start. It was 72 degrees and continued to drop to 62, which was refreshing. About a dozen other riders including Jeremy and Barbara. I've been doing the " Organic Intermittent Fast " for the last six weeks and liking it a lot. The only exception I make is after a night ride. Have to take in a recovery drink at that time. Tonight, Vega Sport Performance. Only 150 calories.

@Old&InTheWay I have been doing intermittent fasting as well and am loving it! I feel so much better riding on an empty stomach and letting my body burn it's fat stores. Who knew?:gotnothing: Yeah, I usually bring a magnesium low sugar drink with me just for hydration sake, when I ride in the morning on an empty stomach, but I am surprised at how much stronger and better, overall, I feel.

    Great pic last night!

Glorious temps, with a marine layer stretching way inland in the afternoon. Made for the only bit it relief on an otherwise tough ride. Don't know if it's because I had a little viral thing going on over the weekend and haven't pedaled in a bit, but I could barely get the cranks turning.
So tough riding out there, on some of the best trails around! But we went up and over the hill (damn, what a hill it was) to Pizza Port and I had the best slice of pizza and beer ever!

A short jaunt up Harding last night on the single speed... I was worried at the start that it was going to be a race pace to the top. That wasn't the case...

And I found one of those bees that everyone is talking about. Well, he found the inside of my thigh, actually. :cautious: I can't remember the last time I got stung... Thankfully, it was nothing like the time when I was little and rode my bike into a pricker bush full of yellow jackets. :p

Today, the clockwise version of one of my local favorites. East of Lake Tahoe.

    sct-cct13.jpg

I parked where the trail meets the road at the top/right, pedaled south on the road at 6:20 with perfect conditions.

    sct-cct01.jpg

    sct-cct03.jpg

Pavement done, on to the ten-mile climb up Sierra Canyon to the TRT. I felt strong, but up high the elz pulled me down some. A dose of Tailwind perked me up enough to think about Genoa Peak.

I then pushed my bike up the .7-mi jeep road to GP, moondust and boulders everywhere, very little pedaling opportunity. Nothing a bike rider would set out to do, but worth topping out for the views. There's some wild foot path below the weather station, which I contemplated having a go at dropping, but discretion got me. Rocky double black with possible consequences solo, not this day.

    sct-cct05.jpg

    sct-cct06.jpg

    sct-cct07.jpg

    sct-cct08.jpg

Then I rolled down to The Bench a couple miles away for another mind-altering vista:

    sct-cct10.jpg

    sct-cct11.jpg

About there the trail north starts descending, and it's really good. So good in fact, it had me thinking as I ripped through the forest...this is the best ST I've ever ridden. Might just have been a euphoric exclamation, but I will say that the Rim might be my favorite MTB venue of any I've ridden.

I stopped to let a hiker pass and felt my right pedal platform move on its spindle. Rut ro...

    sct-cct12.jpg

The end bolt head had sheared off, so finishing the ride with two flat pedals seemed unlikely. I was 16 mi from the car. But, mostly DH! I figured it wouldn't slow me down much, and I do have experience getting broken bikes down hills. It was actually pretty good, as the trail is mostly smooth and my Five Ten Guides were the best footwear I could hope for. Climbing was weird. Every few crank revolutions I'd have to slide my foot back, as the turning spindle would roll it forward. It was fun riding down even with the foot shiv.

    6:50/40.9/6090

Last time on this loop (counterclockwise) I finished just under 7 hours, so I'm pretty damn content with the side trip and mechanical added.

I loaded up and drove up to REI where my Shimano driver was waiting for me, and the wrench there insisted on fitting it himself to be sure he ordered the right one (says "Road" on it – ?). Bingo, so a new XT 11-46 cassette just went on as well. New chain after a bike wash and beer.

    Ride bikes, have fun!

I overslept this morning for a Dawn Patrol cruise so I made it happen this afternoon. The breeze is still breezing pretty good which felt nice because it's pretty sticky out. I did the usual Cherry Canyon loop but I added GSC to it this time, first time in months. It's safe to say that I need to walk GSC sometime soon with clippers in hand. The fire roads have been scratched smooth so the good lines for DH speed are gone. Should be good to go in a week or so.

Great ride, great ride report!

I've had this happen three times with Shimano XT Trail (1x) and XTR Trail pedals (2x). Shimano replaced/rebuilt them each time, but it's pretty scary to think that a pedal can come off its spindle at ANY time. That's when I switched to HT. But they need servicing very frequently.

Oh perfect pedal, where art thou?

almost head on-ed on space tonight. i always ride late, there is a reason for that. Started 1/2 hour before sunset and the parking lot had some cars. I was dropping into the little draw at the bottom of Space and a dude carrying a lot of speed was making the corner.
He drifted well to the inside, gee that is where I was. I jambed the bars to the right and ran my knee into my bar and shifter-brake mounts. then proceeded into the brush, cutting my arm. As he passed I said the was CLOSE. He said two more behind me. I should have thanked him for re-affirming my normal leave at sunset schedule. It has been developed over a long period of time.

funny my last head on was about 10 from this close call.
    happy trails with the Yahoo's

p.s. there is a new cat on Space, it has been spotted the last two or three days. I am the last one up there and I am still not in the food chain. I know I was last as the parking lot was empty except for my truck
