I am starting to get my groove out here in Phoenix,I have not done a ton of riding but got a few little rides in. Need to start early or your window is gone. Yesterday got up bright and early for a little loop around my local hills. I have looped Deem hills a few times and finally figured the best way round with the least bit of walking, lots of steep and rocky sections. From Deem hills I can connect with some Arizona state land and loop around pyramid peak. Pyramid peak has trails branching all over and its just open land so nothing is marked. Third time back here and trying to find the best flow. Got home just after 8 am and it was starting to crack 100*, quick dip in the pool and ready for the day.IMG_3089 (1).jpg IMG_3088.jpg IMG_3086.jpg IMG_3085.jpg IMG_3090.PNG I am

Desert Classic at the base of SoMo is a great (and fast) out and back trail for SSing.

Saturday was a local ride. We (Tony, new guy Jason and myself) stayed on the Simi Valley side to avoid the heat for the most part. The route would be up and over Albertson, Reservoir Loop, back up and over Albertson and home. Halfway through the ride my buddy Tony went OTB and fractured his collarbone and broke two ribs. It seems there was a lot of that going around this weekend. Tony insisted we finished our planned ride so after we walked him out to a point his wife could pick him up we started our slog back up and over Albertson. About halfway to China Flats I realized Jason has fallen off the pace quite a bit. He was really strong up to that point on his Salsa Cutthroat. I'm guessing the heat was getting to him. After a quick break at the top he seemed to have recovered a little so we continued on. Again he was falling behind quite a bit so I just made sure I kept him in sight. We finally got to Tower 45 and thankfully from there it would be all down hill. Jason thanked me for an awesome ride and he sounded sincere so I'm thinking I will see him again.

I’ll have to remember that one. I am north Phoenix but haven’t explored much. Sonoran desert preserve and cave creek are close and on my to explore list.

Black Canyon Trail, too. Beautiful country out there in the wilds. You could also do AZT from Picket Post South to the lookout (11 miles) and back. And, Gold canyon has some good stuff too that would be fun on an SS.

Thanks. He's pretty bummed. He's 64 and has ridden every day for several years. Knowing him he will be pedaling around the neighborhood in no time.

I was actually scoping out a route for you guys. After 19 miles, I think the best route is the normal 11 mile loop. Just get it overwith quickly.

O'Leary Ridge trail in Blue River, OR (across the highway and much, much higher from McKenzie River Trail) with @pdqmach26 and several others. Ridiculously fantastic scenery and 10" singletrack with little margin for error = pure epicness.

@singlespeedrider, check out Cave Creek Regional Park on the other side of I-17. (Go-John Trail, etc.) In your hood. McDowell Mountain Park not far east. I’m sure @tortoise has current intel, and I believe he’s in the NE part of the valley.

@mtbMike: That looks good, way to plunder!!!!

Just a little Waterworks fun... Three loops yesterday. Arroyo Trabuco to get there, Tijeras Creek and Chiquita Ridge to come home... 20 miles and 1600 feet. I did find a little single track connector that makes crossing Crown Valley a lot faster and safer. It's probably been there for years.

I really like the changes to the top of the trail... I find myself riding down there just to do it. And for a few other trails in the area. :whistling:

We moved up to Bend today to meet up with some friends whop live up here and hit the Wanoga trails (Funner, Storm Chaser, COD) and then hooked into the Phil's network. There's a great "drop" line on Upper Funner if that's your thing, we lapped it twice.

@Faust29 nice video. Looks like a good place to take my 11yr old beginner. Would you say it’s more beginner friendly (flat) than the lower trails in Whiting? If so, where’s a good place to start?

Rode up barrego, a little creak yesterday turned into a nasty creak today. Figured, ok I'll check it at the bottom of cattle pond. Soon as I hit the DH I immediately noticed something was not right. So dialed it way back and did a slow descent.
At the bottom started checking all the suspension bolts. They were good, until I checked the chain stay bolts by the bottom bracket. One side was completely gone, on the trail somewhere.

Slow ride out, over to the path...and lo and behold! They have the missing part in stock! :)

And here I thought it was the typical creaky SRAM cassette.

With the new additions in the beginning, it's very beginner friendly, and doesn't have to be ridden fast... On the single speed, I try to ride it like a pump track and see how far I can get coasting. It only drops like 120 feet over .6 miles. I took my son there when he was younger...

If you wanted to bring your youngster, you could park at the shopping plaza on the corner of Antonio and Oso Parkway. The trail actually has two entrances, the second of which is right at the top of the climb to get back up (Escalator on Strava). I can do the loop in under 10 minutes without pushing too hard.

There are a lot of off menu trails and features around there that would entertain Dad, also...

Love that trail! That loop with Escalator is indeed fun. If anything it shows it does not take a lot of space to actually have really fun MTB trails. :)
