Still super saturated and too wet. Spent and hour cleaning the bike this AM. Closest single track to me that gets me in the hills had a body dropped onto it today or over night, not sure. Glad I wasn't the one to find it, because normally I am the only one going up and down that ravine every day. Eff me.

Got out this afternoon for a quick ride at the Oaks. Needed to get some trail time on the new back wheel before heading to True Grit this weekend.

Gotta say, felt like crap out there. Maybe it was the humidity. Trails were not dry. Some were still pretty wet. With all the brush growing, there are sections of trail that just are not seeing the sun or the wind.

Another run down Hawk....having a lot of fun on it.

Fortunately there won't be much cleaning to do on the Hightower or Tallboy.

We knew the rain was coming and wanted to get a ride in so I picked up my teacher buddy at his school in Vista @ 2:30 under cloudy, drizzly skies and drove straight to Greer. I had packed a long sleeve, a base layer and a light rain jacket but upon arrival at Greer, the sun was shining bright and I rode in a short sleeve jersey instead. Aside from some wind (which I hate while riding), the riding was fantastic. The dirt was in great shape and the ongoing trail maintenance can't be beat. They cleaned up Revolution and it was fast, fast, fast!!!

Was originally thinking of riding Greer tomorrow but scrapped that after I saw rain forecast. Now its saying only around 1/4" with heavy rain possible. Best to wait till another day still? I sure wouldnt want to damage the trails, not sure how greer holds up when its raining...

I've never ridden there *during* or even the immediate day after it's rained up there so I'm not the expert there. Aside from the "road" that leads to the back, nothing else up there really turns muddy from what I can tell and you can see the ruts from when people have ridden when they shouldn't. The trails themselves show no such signs of being ridden too early. That's all I got for ya. If it was me, I'd wait until Saturday and Sunday would be better....or just wait until next Weds/Thurs when it should be prime.

Saw that on the news.....very sad. Apparently a young child. Sounds like the piece that runs just above the temple alongside the road?

High temperatures have been above freezing for a couple of days, enough for the snow to melt and be packed down enough to think about a ride. Green Mountain in the Front Range foothills was new to me. It looked like dirt roadie's paradise with no black trails, so I've basically ignored it. A layer of snow changes everything, tho...

A short road bit led to bikeway between and under freeways, in sight of the objective:

    greenmtn1.jpg

    greenmtn2.jpg

After a short but stout fire road climb, I bagged one of the mighty summit knobs of Green Mountain:

    greenmtn3.jpg

Facilitated by the perfect tool for the job. The snow-covered road gained 800+ feet in just over a mile. I bled a little rear tire air and was astounded by what my bike would pedal through and up (not without concerted effort):

    greenmtn4.jpg

I backtracked a bit toward my ST descent objective, Box o' Rocks trail, and hoped for minimal mud, which turned out to be no more than slightly annoying down low:

    greenmtn5.jpg

    greenmtn6.jpg

    greenmtn7.jpg

Back on the bikeway I encountered a prairie dog town. Not super apparent in this photo, almost every dirt hole out there had at least one varmint on watch, and when I stopped, of course they sounded the alarm. I got a quick count of fifty-plus before pedaling off. Just another one of those things that you never see unless you get out on your bike:

Every ride is a good one. No exception today. Cheers!

Green Mt. was a staple quickie with my wife. Wait, I'm not sure I said that right.

We were kind of stupid about riding in those days and went up the singletrack and came down the fireroad. We eventually figured out to go up the singletrack, then turn around and go back down the way we came. MUCH better.

Thanks for the photos. Beautiful - and even though covered in snow, brought a flood of memories.

San Juan from Blue Jay, around the San Juan lollipop then Viejo Tie and Chiquito with @sir crashalot . Weather was great, feet got wet, bikes got muddy. Wonderful day out there!

Thanks! My little finger is pretty stiff, the rest of my hand is okay. Got me more in the forearm (now with pics!).

Just minding my own business, erasing the RSR trail marking...

Gate still closed  Water running all over the place. Just not a deep as it was. The Green Moss is starting to return in the paved water crossings. Not slippery at this time. Did not see anybody else the whole way. Not as spectacular as the recent snow ride adventures but still a very enjoyable ride. :)

Reconnaissance ride today. I was happily surprised that there wasn't as much mud as to be expected. Other than a few shallow water crossings and a few slimy spots both the east and west sides of Simi are good to go.

I rode my bike last night......

We got into St. George....and it started to rain. We thought we may get washed out. The rain stopped, and we went to pick up our packets at Red Rock Cyclery. We really wanted to go pre ride Barrel Roll for Suz, but decided instead to just do a loop on Zen in case it was too wet and muddy....at least we were by the condo.
    IMG_7517.JPG IMG_7518.JPG IMG_7519.JPG IMG_7520.JPG IMG_7521.JPG IMG_7523.JPG
@horsebikerider @Faust29 @HBkites headed out into a cold wind. The rocks were wet, the dirt was damp.

As Suz puts it....Zen never disappoints.

Cleaned the climbs I wanted to clean. Social pace once we caught up to Suz. Tried a few of the "alternate" lines that were available for the race. Temps actually warmed up as we got out of the wind.

    Got done just before dark.

    Good times.

Lounged around most of the day and took a sunset trip up MS. 9th time this year that I've been up MS. Can't get tired of it with the gate closed and the waterworks running. One day they will reopen the gate and those motor vehicles will be back with a vengeance.

#3 looks like a single speeder! Standing on the pedals, arms ready to push and pull, staring ahead for the next climb, menacing grimace... All the signs are there. The other two guys look like they're at home on their Barcaloungers watching football with a beer in their hands. Way too much frivolity and mirth. Where's the pain and suffering?!? :p
