I’m done with the snow! The novelty has come and gone. My favorite trails are knee deep in-snow and will be for a while. My local trails suffered extensive damage from fallen branches and trees not used to the brunt of heavy snow accumulation. Finally though, after a few weeks and work parties, there are rideable trails and I have been able to get a ride in.

I rode last night. It was coooold and windy but so happy to get my tires back on dirt!! I’ll be back out tonight too!

Scared I might get shut out this weekend due to the forecasted rain I took today off to get a ride in. My goal was just to do miles with minimal elevation. I wanted to gauge my endurance for the upcoming Rwanda 75. I didn't feel like driving to Sycamore which would be the best for easy miles so I just rode from home.

Of course it was the same ol same ol. Albertson, Cheeseboro, Las Virgenes Open Space, Cheeseboro, Albertson then home. I threw in some singletrack where I could but the majority was fire road. Again just looking for miles. I got a little more elevation than anticipated but I'll take it. It was a fun day in the saddle.

A kind of dysfunctional, but still enjoyable, ride in Aliso this morning. Up and down 5 Oaks, up Cholla and over to Mentally Sensitive, then up and down Meadows. Probably a third of the 2700 ft gain was hike-a-bike. Trails all in decent shape, some soft/muddy spots in low and shady areas. 5 Oaks was a hoot, as was Mentally, the rain remnants giving a little extra thrill factor in spots. Meadows is pretty much dry except a couple spots... probably missed the trail work window. Still not in bad shape as long as you don't catch a rut wrong.

Bottom of 5 Oaks, the g-out through the creek isn't so much anymore

Out and back to Sierra Peak with @mtnbikej ... I rode the Hightower, because I wanted to see how the fork handled the washboard stuff that usually shakes my fillings loose. The Luftkappe is a marked improvement and just seems to float over the chatter. The fork (Revelation 140mm) was always fine on bigger hits, like in Palm Canyon. It really struggled, though, on washboard bumps. Not anymore... 150mm Luftkappe FTW! :inlove:

I may need to check the bottom bracket before True Grit. It's making some noise... Apparently, it didn't like being submerged. My mechanic says it might be the pedal, but I'm leaning towards the bottom bracket.

True Grit should be fun next week on the devil sled... :p:D

If you apply the conversion formula, it's equal to 50 road miles and 8000 feet of road climbing.

Yesterday I rode with Reck it Ron and the boys in Santiago Oaks. Fun stuff. They showed me some chunk I never knew was there. As a matter of fact It threw me for some memories I will not soon forget. After Ron dropped to and early steep, rocky waterfall section i rolled up on my Tallboy to pick the line and stuffed a tire, ass over teakettle I went. I think I muttered SOAB as I went over. Nothing serious to the body, scraped knee, shoulder and bloody forearm. Broke the rear brake lever clean off at the axle, slight bend in the der. hangar but thats it. This happened at the beginning of the ride so no rear brake for the rest. It did make for some interesting maneuvering. All said and done 11.38, 2557 which felt like 4000 in 2 hours. Luckily Rock n road next to the sandwich shop we ate at had one in stock. Rest and repairs today looking forward to Sunday.

Y'all missed out! The weather was perfect... Well, it rained perfectly hard the whole time. :p:D Just an out and back on Maple Springs with @mtnbikej and TheProfessor. I will say that it is quite liberating to hit the creek crossings at full speed and still have dry feet at the end of the ride. :D

    14 miles and 2500 feet...

This was all snow and ice last Saturday...

We went out for a ride, but as I suspected before we got the the ST, it was a little too much fresh snow to ride uphill through.

So we cruised some bike paths until the weez decided her digits were too cold. In fairness, it was 9 degrees and snowing lightly.

Meh, good to get out and test some gear. My foot gear was toasty, including walking around in ankle deep snow before we left. Flats with aproach shoes, Sealskinz socks, neoprene shoe covers. Good to around zero if dry.

Ran for 4 miles on FLOOP today. Nothing but slop once past the court house. Packed up my tires so bad I slipped into a thorn bush by the horse properties. I got back on the road and went home wet and defeated.

Still great to be back on a bike after being away for so long
