OK, so I can sort of understand the thinking behind it. An occasional cholla incident leads to trailside fun and games and smack talk. If you're running a shuttle service, the cholla would become a daily inconvenience.
Cutting back would have been sufficient, but the total removal was way over-kill, if not downright illegal.
There's no proof and no one's talking so the point is moot.
I already have a spot reserved on a Crazy Bear shuttle for the PCE soon... :whistling:

I did PCE a few months ago and noted the same, you can absolutely bomb the upper portion now with no penalty for running wide on the exits. I preferred the old way with the cactus looming to get a piece of your knuckle for the next few weeks. It's still fun after being overly brushed back, just easier and less character because it doesn't take as much skill. Bummer for sure.

It's when your wife tells you that you need to go for a ride because you're being a jerk... That's when you know you got it made....

I demand a group ride in Wrightwood, a big hug, and a trophy.

Edit: And if you could throw in a cookie, that would be grand. :whistling:

First time riding SkyPark today and walked out of there with a season pass. They credited both my wife and my entry fee to the pass as well as the $10 parking fee so it was only $112 more to upgrade to a season pass.

I am up here for my wife’s and son’s birthdays so I only rode for a couple hours in between hanging with them at Santa’s Village. I didn’t hit Jumpline or Comet today since I was just getting familiar with the park and still have a few days up here with the family, getting busted up would be a bummer for the others. Arrow was a lot of fun and I am looking forward to going back again soon.

A bunch of new dirt and snow today cruising around the north side of the park. We found some black chunk to justify the squish bikes. The weazl rode strong; we had fun. Absolutely no wind and temps in the 50s. Snow tomorrow – gotta make hay while the sun shines...

I was up early, got the bike ready, headed out for my 50+ mile, 6,000 foot ride. Conditions were perfect, but a little crisp. Got ready, got on the bike, and...cue record player needle scratch..:bang:

Actually, I had way too much to do today, and adulting all morning kinda sucked. Couldn't get out to ride until after noon. :( But I got out there. Hit Black Star out to Sierra Peak and the Golf Ball on the way back for some sauce. Fun ride, and I think I saw two other bikes. The E-bike that passed me going up doesn't count. :whistling:

A little exploring... Which meant pushing my bike up to the flag on the Bell Trail. The single track that goes off to the right near the bottom is now passable, but it is narrow and steep. I remember it being pretty overgrown the last time I tried to hike up it. I don't know if I ever made it all the way... Coming down it would require a lot more skill than I have. And there wasn't even a Strava segment. The top of that trail is visible in the distance... Left at the Y down the ridge.

    IMG_0619.jpg

I went about 3/4 of a mile past the flag... I didn't want to go farther, because it turns into CNF land at some point, and that would be inside the closure. Lots of footprints in the dirt, and dog tracks. :stop: There used to be a sign at the border, but they ran equipment up it during the fire. No sign now. It's pretty wide, but it looks like it will return to single track pretty quickly. Definitely by the time the south end of the mountain is open again.

Where I took this picture was a makeshift landing pad...

Santiago Peak, Trabuco Canyon fire damage, and Bell Ridge to the right...
    IMG_0613.jpg

    Heading back to the flag...
    IMG_0615.jpg

I had to hunt for the entrance to Ding Dong, but it was still there... Ding Dong has some gravelly ruts, but it's still rideable. Well... I rode most of it. At the bottom, however, it is quite unfriendly. New gates and signs every 50 feet in the wash saying it's a protected area by order of Trabuco Canyon Water District. Ding Dong may be no more... There were also k-rails blocking the entrance to Cadillac and all the little off road entrances.

    IMG_0621.jpg

Ran into a few of these trying to get to the wash...
    IMG_0622.jpg

Down the Arroyo to Ladera to ride another trail... @Danimal . It was worth it.

    25 miles and 2700 feet...
