    I'll get stoned for this...

It's ok... But it's pretty short for the Santa Ana single track descents and it can be crowded- A mile and 600 feet? Motorway is steeper, looser, and 3 times as long. Trabuco is even bigger in comparison.

And the stuff that @mike likes to ride? A lot longer, bigger, steeper, and more remote...

this is why my elbow is shot.. I love the luge.. Trabuco... motorway... holy jim (even more so now b/c so much softer/non summer) all of oaks.. no braking Peralta...
I need more shocks... but then I love climbing too....dilemmas...
Saving my elbow for San Gabs....

I can't compare any downhill to luge.. plenty long compared to downhills in Aliso and Oaks...
One likes the luge b/c of the jump/out of control/thigh burn feeling! faster you go the easier on your back!

To be honest, I'm no OC expert. I grew up there riding Whiting, Aliso and Laguna repeatedly. Without the advantage of the internet, I didn't venture out much. All that time I was riding at Whiting in the old days, I had no idea I could hang a left and go up to where the Luge was. I rode it for the 1st time 4-5 years ago but just from a pure "fun" factor, I loved it. There could be 100 trails better than The Luge in OC and I just may not know about them.

The drawback to the trails I mention is the entry fee. Our climbs are long...

From reading your posts, I think you’d really like some of mike’s rides.

So Mark, how in the heck did you do what you did to that tire/rim?! A mountain-bike-hater booby-trap, perhaps???:D

That's part of the problem. The travel on your fork is 100mm and the frame is "XC"? Does Giant make an aggro HT with modern geo? If so, then you need a new bike (relaxed geo and 120-130mm fork travel). Being in a more relaxed/aggro/attack position will make the bumps seem smoother and you'll go faster and you'll feel more confident and it will climb just as well.

    I'm just special.

Never saw the perpetrator of my tire's demise. Just heard the results and the rest is described above. It was obviously native plant life - I just didn't see it.

That is my one complaint about The Luge... it's way too short. Considering the speeds that can be taken through it, it's over way too soon. :(

I had to be somewhere in aliso at 11 yesterday so I brought my bike and got to check out some trails beforehand. I did 5oaks, bong drop, cholla, lynx and rock it. I wanted to do car wreck but ran out of time. Had a blast. I'll bring the enduro next time for sure though.. Those are some serious trails.

OK, I found your new bike, Giant Fathom 29. HTA is 69 degrees (XTC is 70 degrees) with a 100mm fork. Buy just the frame. Hopefully, most of the parts form your XTC will transfer over, BUT, invest in a Fox 34 fork set at 120mm to relax the geo on the new frame a little more. Then, you'll be swingin' for the fence!

No money? Haaa, that's what going into debt is for. It's the American way...

From Tuesday's ride before I had to take off for a conference. First ride since being sick all the previous week and weekend, and it was killing me! But I finished, and had fun. Because it beats the alternative!

Might get a ride in this evening when it cools down a bit. Big Bear tomorrow, and hoping it won't kill me!!!

Nice. I like it. Luckily, both my kids did Army ROTC so their 4 year education was paid for. The Army gets theiir investment back the next 4 years as you work 50-60-70 hours a week with no overtime but you check out with a degree, world travel and 4 years of life/work experience.

All that makes my latest bike search possible. Set up to demo the new Ripmo in a few weeks but will prob wait to see if Yeti does any changes to the 5.5 before going all in.

Unfortunately, I never left!?! (I guess that's another thread ).

But I did just get off the phone with the guy who organized and completed most of the trail work in the Santa Ana's from the early 70's to the mid-90's. He and his Sierra Club group, including my brother, built or restored most of the trails we ride here, as well as extensive trail work in the San Mateo Wilderness. We can thank him for Upper and Lower Holy Jim, both Horsethiefs, Coldwater, the Trabuco trail, San Juan, Los Pinos, Joplin, etc.

So that was a major stoke, and I'll definitely get on some trails this weekend.

Climb Caballero canyon to Sullivan. Dropped down Sullivan canyon through the fun twisty optional ST. Got faced slapped by poison oak  because that stuff grows EVERYWHERE.

Luckily I know what Mugwort looks like. Plucked and crushed some leaves and rubbed on the affected areas. Just a little nod to the Chumash Indians who knew the soothing properties of the plant :geek:

I stayed local today. I've put 5K miles in my truck in the past 2 months so I need to back off of driving distances for fun for a spell.

Did a local loop. Lots of riders out. I was hoping that everyone in So Cal would be up at Skypark today since there is a festival going on. I guess not.

Jennifer went to Cheeseboro to run with her girlfriends so I used the opportunity to ride from home and meet her at the parking lot when she was through.

The plan was to just cruise over Albertson to Palo Comado and drop down to the parking lot. Well cruising across Albertson I decided to take Powerline to add to my vacation elevation and drop into Cheeseboro that way. I got to Triple Threat aka Gas Pipe and figured what the heck. May as well drop that to get some single track in. It was a good choice because by the time I did that then went down Las Virgenes and climbed back into the park Jennifer was just finishing her run.

I felt surprisingly well considering this is my 8th straight day on the bike.

    Eight day total:
    38,486'
    277.3 miles

Holy Jim to Trabuco. The classic triangle. About to send the wall, yippie.

Should I be posting in I’m gonna ride my bike? I guess we need a new thread for goons like me who ride-post. I’m riding my bike now. Or today. It happened. It’s gonna happen.

It’s so nice up here, I don’t want it to end...

Why the "eight day total"? As though you are not going to ride on the ninth, tenth, and eleventh days, too? We expect you to.

BTW, excellent work thus far.
