I rode my local trails today with @Cougar. Holiday morning in Aliso means crowds. Today, we couldn't even get to a trailhead due to some sort of running event in Aliso Viejo. All left hand turns were blocked from the park north past Aliso Creek, Pacific Park, Moulton all the way to Carlotta. We had to go up to El Toro and find our way to Canyon Vistas from there.

Craig has been abroad for several weeks, so he wasn't feeling up to anything spicy or long . We just did an easy collection of three ups and three downs for a total of 15 miles and 2250'. It was nice and cool all morning, and although the fireroads were heavily populated, we had no substantial interruptions on Lynx or Meadows, and only a bit of a slow down at the end of Rock-It.

Bikes are fun!  :)

Last day of my vacation and I wanted to do a good ride up in the front range of the SanGabes. Started really late like 12:30ish this afternoon weather warm! I knew it was gonna be a nice and eazy cruz up to Ken Burton saddle,
    2018-05-28 20.35.51.jpg
Once on top felt a nice breeze, wish I could've stayed a bit longer to enjoy it. Headed back down I rode Fern trk. trl. over to Millard camp ground, up lower Sunset ridge trail.

Once on Mt Lowe the fireroad was hot!!
I was determined to make it up right before Sierra saddle where I hopped back on Sunset ridge back down to Millard canyon road and Fern trk. trl. nothing like finishing it off w/ El Prieto, a fun ride through there but I had to take it easy as my body was wearing out from being out in the sun all afternoon, no mechanicals, no flats, no falling of the bike it was a good solo ride!!

Rolled outta bed at 3:00 this morning for a 5:00am roll time from the Tree Farm at Blackstar. It was dark...really dark.

Only 1 car in the parking lot.....however we saw no one. By the time we reached the end of the canyon it had lightened up quite a bit. We could also see that we may be heading into the soup. At the 2nd right hand switchback we were in the soup.

Dropping into Hidden Ranch it was pretty foggy.

Legs were taking a while to show up for the ride. We were not fast today.

About 1/2 mile from the top, we got above the clouds.....
    IMG_3775.jpg

Made the right turn at Beeks' to be smack into the sunlight. The climb up to the Doplar Ball seemed long. Still no legs.

Off and up Main Divide to Hagador Peak.....legs were dead. At Hagador it dawned on me why I had no energy. My Sunday afternoon ride didn't finish until after 6:00pm, and we rolled at 5:00am this morning. I guess 11 hours wasn't enough recovery time.

The push across the rest of Main Divide was a struggle. @Faust29 and I did do a little exploring on a singletrack opposite Pleasants Peak....looks doable. Yet, I used some extra energy that I didn't have to begin with.

Finally made it to Motorway. Run down Motorway wasn't fast....but wasn't slow. Just kinda took it easy. Back at the car by 9:00.

Great way to start the day.

Ok so I strayed off a little. But to close out the holiday weekend I did Floop. Had to try out the double magic drivetrain on the SS. It works! Legs are now fried. 106/8140 for the weekend. Almost what @mtnbikej and @Faust29 do in one ride.:alien:

    RR: FAIL!!!

I tried to do a simple grunt up La Tuna this afternoon. I felt fatigued by the time I had reached the end of my block. I made it out to the base of the hill and started to climb, super-slow. I knew something wasn't right. I made it about 1/4 the way up the mountain and turned around and headed home. My entire body is stiff and every little bump hurt like hell. Couldn't catch my breath, had to stop every 100 yards for the duration of my attempt upward. This happened to me about a year ago. To bed early tonight, for me.

I am getting dressed to ride. Rode last night with a big brite full moon. I was reading tonight about a gal that fell in Joshua Tree and broke her pelvis. She was out there three days and drank her own urine. I plan on being back soon and I do not have anything to catch my urine. Plus riding at night does not cook your brain. So no urine for me, but C'est la vie, chacun son goût,

Luckily for us guys, our urine comes out in a stream under compression and it is directional. Direct the stream toward your mouth and open up wide if that day ever comes.

Well today was going to be one of those take it or leave it days. Today was going to be day 4 in a row....and past histories has shown I don't do well 4 days in a row.

Got a text from @Ebruner about riding Oaks....so I committed. I let him know it was going to be a short ride...and that worked well for both of us. Headed down to gear up when I remembered that I needed to service the rear hub on the SS....the axle is loose. So I hopped on the HT and rolled. On the way to the Oaks, my fears were validated...my legs and body were mush. Also realized I left my phone at home. Slow rolled up Oak....then looked at the time. It was later than I thought it was. I knew what time Erik was gonna roll...I didn't think I had time get another up and down in, so down Bumble Bee and up Goat.

Was going to wait at the top of Chutes, but it was really breezy and chilly, so I went down Chutes and waited at the wash. He was running late and I figured I'd give him til 5:30 and head back up Chutes...Well he caught me about 1 minute up Chutes. Social pace up the climbs....then attacked the DH's. Seemed like the wind was blowing across all the DH's.

Tonight was a little quieter than it has been. Still a good afternoon on the bike. Good riding with Erik.

Rode my bike today as promised.
Stough canyon is located in the Verdugos on the Burbank side. It’s a great short after work ride. Four mile fireroad climb up to the La Tuna towers.
The climb started inside a dense cloud that gradually thinned out the higher I climbed.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the sun and blue skies as I neared the top. Got to see some of the OTB crew before they rolled back down the hill.

I hung out at the towers taking in the amazing sunset

Then I happened to look down and noticed I wasn’t alone

This same thing has happened to me occasionally. I don't know if it's a virus, general fatigue, dehydration, nutrition, or ??? Feel fine going out, then feel like crap with no power and sorta' trembly during the ride, come home and rest/sleep for the day, and am then fine.

Weird scenes inside the gold mine...

I forgot to mention the other night I was riding the ridge and an insect as big as your thumb was heading at me down the trail. I look closer it had hair. I think I saw my first shrew. I know they are out there but never saw one before. Last night up on the ridge I was impressed by the frogs chirping. I am 6oo feet above the creek so I was quite impressed
