This one has tight Sbacks that can be hard to clean, they are all makeable but you need to position yourself carefully. But the good news when decending and you come in way too fast there is a bail out groove on the UPHILL side of every Sback. The inside corners are not carved so no escape there. And the worse: there is almost no air. So it is a fun ride, just not hammered into shape by the gravity dudes and not much to launch on for those whom prefer to fly.
    Happy mustard covered trails

Some like to ride the more abandoned trails from Liberty Canyon and take the lesser used trails in the State Park down to the site

I actually like E bikes, I have only seen one on the trails. It caught me (nothing new here) passed me (again the same) and after it was gone I could smell the Ozone until I hit the next Sback. Ozone is cool, it just does not last long in the real world.

Early morning Aliso coffee ride with a couple of buddies. Cholla-TOTW-Meadows. 11.7 miles, 1,277 feet. Temps were actually really nice today. Not cold at all. I shed the wind breaker pretty quickly. There was patchy fog everywhere. First ride on the Nox Farlow wheelset that I just received yesterday and I got a PR on Meadows.

Brown mountain up to Ken Burton trailhead. Relaxed for a spell up on the water tank and then did an about face and blasted back down Brown Mountain trail, all the way to JPL. No techy El P today. The name of the game was SPEED. We won't talk about the half dozen or so folks/riders I almost took out on the way back down. :D

Topanga Creek State Park with some other MTBers. It was a great ride though I would like to do it with fresh legs. Total climbing for the weekend is 8914'. Oh yeah. I did a slow OTB and face-planted.IMG_20180107_144314_180.jpg IMG_20180107_143855_915.jpg

I rolled this afternoon. Just went to get in some miles/elevation at the Oaks. Took the detour through Villa Park. 10 mins into the ride I had no legs. No problem, I'll just push through and they'll wake up in a little bit. Fought them for about 2800'. Then at the top of the 2nd B I heard the dreaded pop. Slow rolled it to the flat spot and did my inspection. Yup....snapped the SRAM Quick Link:

    IMG_3329.jpg

It was at this point I remembered I still had not replaced the last link I took out of my seatbag. Fortunately Suz was still at the barn, so I turned around and headed down to the sag wagon and a ride home.

    Still a good ride. 16 / 2900'

Isn't a chain weaker with more than one quick link?

Nope.....and I broke the quick link. The chain doesn't break, the quick links are the weak points.

So, have we finally learned that SRAM is not a good option for a quick link??? :Roflmao

Exactly my point. The more quick links you have, the more likely one is to break. Seems weaker from a logical standpoint, but perhaps not literally?

I think the real blame is on them SSers. ;)

    Rode my bike today.
Santa Monicas cruiser starting from the west side of LA off sunset blvd. Met up with David and Matt on Bayliss Blvd.
We hit a majority of fun technical descents: Scorpion, Samurai, MG (named for the wrecked car), Rogers Rd aka backbone, J drop, and Sullivan canyon.
One minor spill by David caused by me on Samurai. It was more comical than dangerous even though the grade was -24 degrees. Turns out it’s hard to stop your bike when you’re in a semi controlled slide
Lots of people out, hikers, runners, dudes on bikes, girls on bikes...
Post ride eats at Northern Cafe in Westwood, where a big bowl of beef noodle soup was a most delicious way to replenish lost calories.
Oh and no pics because we were on a mission so I’ll just bore you with screenshots of stats.

Rode my bike today on some decomposed granite goodness. Sunset trail is in extra chunky mode with all the fallen debris and some minor landslides. El Prieto was grippy in spots and wet and slippery in others.

Got back into Maple Springs/Motorway on Weds. with @Faust29 . However today I had the day off and he had dinner plans, so we got out early. Rolled right at 2:30.

Gate at Maple Springs was closed, so it would be a peaceful climb up. Lots of new rocks in the road before the dirt. Once on the dirt, it was moist and tacky. Mud really wasn't an issue. Lots of new ruts and more rocks in the trail. Temps were a bit warmer than I anticipated. Looking up we could see the clouds and fog. However it kept creeping up higher as we got closer.

Made 4 Corners and it was clear....sort of. Temps were still comfortable. IMG_3345.JPG IMG_3346.JPG

Started to roll away and the mixture of sweaty jersey and cool air....I stopped to put my jacket on. Lots of new ruts along Main Divide. Powder is gone. Some sections are kinda beat up. Soon we rolled into the clouds. At times visibility was down to about 20'.

    IMG_3347.JPG IMG_3348.JPG IMG_3349.JPG

Got to the top of Motorway about 10 mins before sunset. Climbed back up into the coulds. Motorway has lots of new ruts and rocks. Dirt was good. Visibility was limited up top.

    IMG_3350.JPG IMG_3351.JPG

Got down to the bottom just before dark.

Good times on the mtn today.

You’re supposed to lay your bike over on the non-drive side or you might damage your rear derailleur. :sneaky::whistling:

First ride in a week! It felt more like 6 months... Still waiting for the head and chest to clear, so I took the e-bike tonight. Not sure it helped any... I went from feeling like I was going to barf to feeling like I was going to pass out from lack of oxygen. Fun times! :p

A little rain really changes the road up and the trail down... rocks everywhere, new ruts, no powder, and lots of colors.

I hope the gate stays closed for some time...
