I'm sure, at least if you're geared up right for it.

Of which a singlespeeder never/always is, right!!!

Well, according to them they are. But according to me, it's a hell of a workout with my 11 gears to choose from (okay, ....two. The granny-est two).

I like those steep jaunts after work where I look down on the metal boxes with their light on. And me up there all by myself with a great big smile

Crazy-awesome Solstice Day ride... A fun, cold, and quite windy one! But we ate well, and drank better. Steve couldn't make it out, and Jake was having orthodontic issues, but Eric, Jim, and myself rolled through! My device died mid-ride, so I can only say it was a 30 something mile ride, on some of the best trails around. Goal was to stay on dirt as much as possible. We called it short as we got off to late start, and had a mechanical that ate up some time. And the winds were miserable out on the Calimesa plateau. The rest of the time wasn't so bad though... a little blustery but not gale-force miserable! Slightly getting lost out there wasn't bad, except it was during those miserable winds and dust storms. And that's where my phone died, which was weird as it was showing 15% charge. But we a great lunch at a George's German deli, then dinner at Gourmet Pizza to made up for a lot of that!

Lots of water flowing at Mentone Beach. Unfortunately too cold for a dip. This is a summer swim hole for the locals!

This was in the middle of the windstorm on the plateau. A fire burnt this area pretty bad a few months ago. It was miserable.

George's deli... the real deal! Had a Reuben and a pint of Weihenstephan on tap!

Thought about joining @Rumpled 's Blackstar Solstice ride, but knew it was gonna be cold and windy. After last night's Maple Springs excursion, I wasn't looking forward to that.

Fortunately another friend needed some work done on his bike, so I headed over his way to pick up the bike. Ended up doing a Whiting / Luge loop. Not as cold as it could have been....but it was windy. Only saw a couple of other riders in Whiting....even with a 3:30 start. However did see a herd of 8 deer on Serrano Cow Trail. Saw no one on STT. A couple of almost stop you in your place windy sections on STT. The Luge was just.....ehhh :gag: . Head wind down Live Oak.

    Still a fun ride.

    That looked.......cold.

I was able to do my ride in my light arm warmers. I put my windbreaker on for the ride down Live Oak....but it really wasn't needed.

The wind on the other hand.....blew.

It was really blowing at the tree farm, but once we got into the canyon, it died down. I wore tights, but only a base layer and the fleece jersey up top. At Beeks? Holy Moly! Add a wind breaker, The Showers Pass, and heavy gloves that I stole back from my kid!

IT sounded like a freight train at the upper gate, and we knew we were going to ride into it as soon as we popped out on Main Divide. It almost blew me off the bike! :D

    Yes.....today hell froze over.

Today I did a few things that I normally wouldn't do. I bought a road bike.

Ok.....not really. A friend of mine was having some issues with his bike and asked if I would take a look at it. Sure, but you understand I gotta ride it to diagnose it. And you understand how I test ride bikes....right? As long as you are ok with it, we are good. We are good.

So I spend the morning going over the pivots....some were on the loose side. He thought all the pivots were supposed to be torqued to 5Nm.....wrong. I also pulled his hub apart and cleaned and greased the star ratchets.

Got it all back together and headed to the Oaks to see if it was fixed.

First, I gotta say....the bike is too small for me. It's a medium....I should be on a L.

    IMG_3281.jpg IMG_3282.jpg

Yeah, I went totally Enduro today.....Bro. Yeti SB6

First ride on a mtn bike other than a Santa Cruz in a lot of years.
First ride on a 150mm+ travel bike since 2010
First ride on a 27.5 bike
First ride on Eagle 12 spd
First ride on Enve HV 70/30 rims
First ride on new slacked out geometry

So what did I think? It was fun. I pushed the bike hard, considering this was the first time I had ridden it.
The bike climbed well for a long travel rig. I left the rear shock wide open the whole time, plus it was a little soft for me.
The bike descended well...but the cockpit felt too short. I also think I had the tires too hard.
Was really impressed with the Eagle 12 spd......yeah I used them all. My SS drivetrain only has 6 more teeth total than the pie plate on the Yeti.
The Enve wheels were stiff....but again psi may have been high.
The Enve Minnaar DH Bars are horrible.....waay too stiff.
The Reverb has way too much side to side slop.
The 27.5 wheels weren't bad....I only noticed them in the sections that had holes to drop the front wheel into....otherwise they did climb easier.
The internal routing rattled quite a bit.

Otherwise I had fun out in the Oaks today. All that said and done, I am still faster DH on my Tallboy.

I've been hatching a plan to rebuild my Gunnar 29er to fit my son, and looks like I succeeded! I've sorta' been looking for a used medium Superfly or Scale for him, but decided to see if he could fit this large-ish sized bike. Success! It's sort of between a M and L, and it stretches him out a little with a 60mm stem, but not too bad. I'll get flat bars to replace the 20mm risers on there which should help some as well. He dropped in some downhills like they were nothing... I think we have a winner!

Shut the laptop down a little early today and hit Aliso with a buddy for a quick ride. Just the usual loop starting on Awma up Cholla to TOTW and down Meadows. Temps were pretty much perfect for an afternoon ride. 12.3 miles, 1,327 feet. Ran into this little guy on the ride in. Pretty much the largest bobcat I’ve come across. He was just chilling in the brush then got up and walked away.
