TECRIL rides again! Same ol' stuff, but when your same ol' stuff is this much fun, it's ok to be redundant.

Met up with @Cougar, my friend Scott and his friend Rob. Rob quit smoking about three weeks ago, and he was hurtin'. Major props for quitting the cancer sticks, getting a 5010 and getting out to ride. One trip up Cholla was enough for Rob, but he loved Rock-It. Who doesn't?

Scott, Craig and I love Cholla so much we did it again, then rode Lynx. I had a guy on an XC rig wad up pretty hard in front of me. I was giving him plenty of room so he wasn't feeling pressured, but he got caught by a rut and had quite a little tumble. Not injured.

At the end of Coyote, I stopped to prepare for the slog up Mathis to Alta Laguna, but my compadres weren't feeling it. We said our adioses and up the hill I went - ever so slowly. Fun run down Meadows, as always.

Today was really annoyingly busy. It's usually busy on a Saturday morning, but today just seemed like we ran into people at all the worst spots - where the trail is most fun, or narrowest. No flow on R-I or Lynx due to other trail users, but I was alone on Meadows by 11:30.

That is all - bikes are fun!

Tell Rob every time he feels the urge to light up, go for a ride instead.

Good for him getting rid of those things.

Voodoo Tom and Rossage. They hurt me (or I hurt myself) on the last climb Ran out of steam. Had plenty for the descents though. Funny how that works out.

Move a little rock here, another over there...nobody will notice. It will make it easier, I mean, safer! Or just put a two-lane P-line around the whole thing!!!

TECRIL mixes it up a bit. @Cougar and I strapped on some protective gear and hit 5-Oaks, Car Wreck, Stairs and then, of course, Rock-It - in that order. Really fun morning hitting some tougher trails. Beautiful weather - very fall-like today, cloudy at first, then cool sunshine. Lower sun angles. Not nearly as crowded this morning as yesterday - no crowds or interruptions on the downs. Nobody on 5-O, nobody on Car Wreck, one man and his dog on Stairs (not in the way), and a small group of five hikers on a flat part of Rock-It who were already off to the side - no problemo!

Great day! Bikes are fun.:)

Another can't make up my mind sit around the house then last minute ride from home. Thankfully I'm relatively close to dirt. I did a lot of pavement and fire road and a little bit of single track but still had a great ride. The grin is for the beautiful day.20161002_103127-1600x1200.jpg Screenshot_20161002-124426-1200x1291.jpg

Solo ride yesterday. Left from the house over to Oaks. What a nightmare on the streets :gag:. At Oaks hit up Yucca, Coachwhip, Chutes and Puma. The trails were empty as expected since I started late. One of my highlights of the ride was when I was leaving the park towards the Santiago Park exit there are several large circular stones that provide a walkway to cross a creek when water is flowing. I've only ridden across them once about 15 years ago and only because I followed someone through. It's a challenge and you're wet if you fail. Well the water was flowing so I thought I'd give it a shot. This time with 29er wheels. A bystander watching . Made it across easy:D. City streets back to the house :gag:. Made some good mileage. 41/2200.

Got a good fun ride in today on new dirt, thanks to @Faust29 and @mtnbikej showing me around the Bell View trail and Caspers. Starr Rise isn't as hard as I thought it would be.

I have a new rule: I only ride with Steve and J the day after they've done 8,000-10,000 feet. I managed to keep up with them almost the entire ride.

    Rwanda Caspers Loop...

It was a fun ride... Lots of smiles and conversation. The legs were a little tired, especially in the beginning, but they held up their end of the bargain to complete an 11,000 foot weekend.

I may just survive the Wrightwood 50 in a couple weeks.

And every time I think about sore legs, I think about @mike and his last month... No more complaints!

Sunday is family day but nobody wanted to play except Rusty so we ganked his moms bike and took off. Did a variation of our normal loop from the garage. Perfect temps and my smart phone decided to play dumb and not record the ride but I got pics so it happened.

Rusty saying "who me, nope wasn't me I didn't come from the other side of that stinking fence..."

I rode my bike today (yesterday), but paid the price today (today). 35 miles, mostly road, as I pinch-flatted like a newb at or about mile 12 (https://www.strava.com/activities/731194010). My wife's phone bounced out of the bar bag at the time, but the tire didn't let go till a quarter mile further down the road. By the time I figure out the phone is gone, some distance and time passed. This was as it was heated up, did I mention that? So I jog back the 1/4 mile with the bike and a flat, find the phone, try to patch the tube, but it's full of Stan's which means it's basically unpatchable, swap in the spare, and get riding. By that time, it's getting hot, I'm pissed off, and guess what: Bonk! So instead of hitting the trails I love up in Yucaipa, I end up finding the flattest route back home, and hope I don't run into any goathead patches. Made it home, inhaled four slices of pizza, two beers, and crashed for an hour or so. Just a little riding today with the kids, but nothing worth noting. Kinda' generally feel craptastic :-/
If it cools down and I can peel away this afternoon, maybe some mileage! Or maybe just get the kids processed and in bed, then go and whatch John Oliver, The Circus, and new season of Blunt Talk (Good Sunday night lineup).
Lone pic from the ordeal was when I stopped post flat and filled up w/ H20. I may have been dehydrated as well...

    30049728075_25f0405619_b.jpg

Spent the morning trying to patch the tube that pinched, spending an hour or so getting the patches to adhere (Stans' effs that up), only to finally figure out that I have a valve-stem tear. Great.

But still agree, bikes are fun!

34 miles 2,295ft. it was the cycle for life ride in Irvine. Good weather and some good climbs, as always got the stinky eye from a handful of roadies, some comments like "your bike looks heavy, for this kind of ride, are you sure you'll be ok? " "Your tires are so big, bope they roll fast" "if you need help, let one of the staff members call the taxi ( a recovery car for the ride) and as always I responded to all the comments in a positive manner and with a smile. Ended the ride with a pretty good shape, I didn't cramp at the end like last year, thanks to the advice of my friends here, just one large bottle of tailwind and a some apples at both rest stops and a dietcoke on the second stop @ rock and road cyclery and the last part wich goes from rock and road @Santa Margarita to Irvine lake...ohh man !
Nice climbs indeed !!! Good day good temps and good food !!! IMG_20161002_085334.jpgShiny happy people ;)

The guys at clyclery were scratching their heads when I got inside the store with beefy road tires "hey, why do you have those tires on your mtbike?" Because I'm roading my bike, buddy. "Oh I see, because those schwalves are heavy" man, I know ufff with this set up my bike is at 35lbs 8oz .

Yes, I was on my bike today. I joined @Faust29 and @Runs with Scissors for a spin to and around Caspers.

After yesterday's short spin, I wasn't sure how much leg I was going to be bringing. The other 2 took off with a bit of a quicker pace. Took me a little longer to warm up.

Ended up doing the extra credit to the end on before and after the Casper's loop. Cleaned all the climbs going up East Ridge. Legs felt good most of the day. Did feel the burn on the little FU climb at the bottom of Oso. Faust was trying to talk us into going up Oso Trail.

The climb out of Star Rise wasn't as bad as I feared it might be....we weren't fast, but I have been slower.

Great temps out there. Fun times.

Had a 0 mph crash on Camarillo. My shin and knee are all swollen. Also tagged a cactus with my hand. Otherwise pretty fun ride. Got a late start so park was pretty much empty. The slight cloud cover and breeze were a nice treat.

Oh sure, burst my bubble by adding in T and A and 1500 feet more climbing. @Cougar and I were lamenting at the top of stairs that you would just keep going and going. Looks like we were right.

I love the ride profile on your STRAVA page. Kind of speaks to the steepness.

And going from 20/21 to 25/26 seems a bit drastic. I assume you are talking about your Bronson with those super stiff Enve wheels and the big-ass Magic Marys. I imagine it felt pretty bouncy at that pressure.

I'm 210 lbs and run 22/24 and that seems plenty. You know I'm not gentle on my wheels. I ran your Magic Mary at about 23. To each his own, but my .02 is to land somewhere between where you were and where you went.

@herzalot did I pass you out there? I thought I saw your green helmet at the bottom of the canyon (over at the bottom of Birthday) (and coug) -- I actually called out "coug" across the canyon.

Yes, it was too much pressure. But my legs were hammered the other night at 20/21. Gonna go 22/23 and see how we go. My buddy was not happy with my tire pressure today. He kept telling me to get my e-bike out of the park! ;)

I'm not wearing my green IXS anymore. Sporting a matte black TLD again (WITH a visor). The IXS is more comfy, but the vision is too restricted. Also, I'm not sure where "Birthdays" is. I only ride the trails on the menu. ;)

I cleaned it twice last year. When did you ride it last, cuz it sho don't look like the last time I rode it last year? Holy Smokes! Seems like ALL the sediment was washed out between..., boulders seem bigger and more of them. Bad enough I wished I had a 29'er, that's pretty bad! If I had a straight shot I could just close my eyes and point, But with the corners......

You know what that means @Tom the Bomb? ... we gotta go back and give it a whirl...

I'm 0 for 2 cleaning the waterfall so far. It's doable but the penalty for failure seems pretty high.
